Lost bunny now found bunny

Well going to the vet today I hope, seems real content in cat carrier, thirsty as all get out though, here’s a Pic, is it a Polish?

Can you post a photo from the side with something beside the bunny for size reference? Then we can help you better to determine which breed it might be.

He’s adorable! And he looks like he’s got a shape like my Tilly. We aren’t sure on her breed, though… we think she’s a mix (mutt-bunny). Maybe he’s a happy little mutt-bunny, too?

  The Vet thought mix too, he said one of the healthiest rabbits he’s seen. Wasn’t sure how he could test for syphilis though. He IS a he, about a year old and full grown. I went to our local, (towns pop. 985), Telephone cable provider and was going to put a Bunny Found on the “local” channel. She asked is it black? I said yeah why? She said a guy was in a couple of WEEKS ago asking if anyone had lost a bunny and asking. She said no. He said it was running around his yard and he was feeding it. He lives like 5-6 blocks away from me. I said, nevermind the add he’s a keeper, loves to cuddle. So, I have an unnuetered male and spayed female. Vet said should be fine together if they don’t fight, and he might even “try” to mate her, but not likely. Do unnuetered rabbits spray like Tom Cats? Cause it seems like the cat carrier I have him in has a faint musky oder????????????

 

Any way, if they live in same house will they require seperate litter boxes too?

 

Training time starts today, definatly starting with litterbox in small contained space, with food and water, and slowley increasing his space, but, after I have him trained do you think I need two separate boxes?

 

Vet thinks he is one lucky rabbit running loose on not getting caught by a hawk, and finding a rescuer………ME! lol

 

Thanks for the condolences, toughest 2 days of my life, but there are funerals and wakes yet to come, I’m wondering who I’ll lose today?

I’m sorry about the losses of your family members.

I’m not sure how rabbit savvy your vet is if he said it was okay to put an unneutered male with your female rabbit. Of course there is no danger of pregnancy, but this new male rabbit will almost certainly mount your female, and do so continuously. She will not like that and there will likely be fighting He will also be spraying, which it sounds like he is already doing.

The first step in bonding rabbits is for both of them to be spayed and or neutered. Introductions should not be attempted otherwise. After this new bunny has been neutered, wait at least a couple of weeks for him to recuperate before you start the bonding process. It can take 4 weeks or more for his hormones to be flushed out of his body, so you may want to wait even longer before bonding. After they are bonded, they should be able to share a litter box.

It’s great that you rescued him and are giving him a home!

Yes, unneutered bunnies do spray, and he may very well spray your female bunny, you, whatever else he may claim as his, etc. While you don’t necessarily have to neuter a male bunny, I personally think you’ll have an easier bond and a cleaner house if you do.

Oooooh Yeeeaaaahhhh, as a man, I shiver at the nuetering but, am going to set an appoinment ASAP. I borrowed a large Dog Kennel to begin the litter training. So, during recovery, he can learn too! thanks

  The Nurse said they are pretty booked for surgeries, but is going to call me tomorrow when the Dr’s get in, gone for the day, the sooner the better!

My vet said he doesn’t see more than a handfull of rabbits a year. But the spayed Velvet and she came out fine.

   Okay, so it might take a week or two. I have a large size Dog Kennal. Should I set that up in my shed outside and keep him there untill fixing day. Mn. isn’t too bad at night, I leave windows open at night. Just got called back, they can do it next Friday. So. I think he’s going out in the shed. I keep a 55 gallon barrel with bag inside and dump my does litter in that with a cover, will that cause him any hormone imbalence being in my shed with that smell? I wouldn’t think so, because she’s spayed.

Yes, Vet said the shiney coat and glossy eyes are a great indictor he’s healthy, good teeth.

I would be a little concerned that your vet isn’t all that rabbit savvy as well. We took Pumpkin to a “rabbit savvy” vet according to the Humane Society and she wasn’t concerned at all that Pumpkin’s privates were red and inflamed. Took her to a new vet and who ran blood work to send off to test for syphilis. The new vet also pointed out some other things that the other one didn’t notice. The first vet also only saw a handful of rabbits per year.

I’m in Morristown, 10 miles west of Faribault, Mn. I found a different vet they have 2 women who are very rabbit savvy. Better yet they are nuetering him, next Friday and 1st vet wanted $175.00 this one $110.00. Probably after we lay my FIL to rest Sat. I’m going to take him to FIL heated garage, furnace is always set at 50 because it has plumbing. I’ll run back and forth feeding and such, He only lived like 4 blocks away. Then Friday, I plan on slowley transitioning him to our house and begin extensive litter training. Velvet picked it up real quick. What’s nice about Dark Star, (new guys name) is his short coat. Velvet god bless her gets 99.9% of turds in box but that long Jersey Wooly hair, she always drags a few out of the box. Can’t blame her. I think Dark star prolly won’t leave any outside. Owatonna Heartland Animal Center is where his going next Friday. And home in afternoon.

Dark Star is a great name! I’m glad that you found some vets who are more rabbit savvy and are less expensive to boot.

Did the first vet check for parasites? Since it seems the bunny was out on his own for a few weeks, it’s always possible that he picked up something. Several years ago, we found a rabbit in our neighborhood who had been cast out. She had worms, which they can get from eating vegetation where other animals have gone to the bathroom. She also had coccidia, but both were easily treated.

I hope that Dark Star and Velvet will bond quickly. It’s always wonderful to see bunnies snuggling.

He checked fur for mite/fleas said looked great, her ears looked great too, her claws were like razor blades too. He and I trimmed them very easily.
