So I’ve noticed lately that Moxie has been having strange colored poops. They are like a light brown color? My camera is dead at the moment so can’t post a pic. Do you guys think it could be from the meds, steroids or baby food? (The baby food is a purplish color…)

Is this something to worry about? I just spent about $100 in meds and vet bills  few days ago, and Moxie was really stressed out at that visit, so would hate to bring her in again (for her own good) unless necessary.

        Thanks in advance!

^That came out wrong, I meant that I think that bringing her into the vets would do more harm then good because of the stress involved driving and going in.

When you say light brown.. is that lighter or darker than her normal poops? What color are her normal poops?
Pete’s poops are usually a bit on the dark side because he gets lots of protein from stealing Zoeys food at any chance he can get… And they get darker and surface-greasy when he’s on meds… but Tilly’s tend to be med/light brown with golden-brown specks because she eats mostly hay now.

Moxie’s normal poops are normally very dark. These new ones sound like they look like Tilly’s, like Moxie is eating a lot more hay (I can kinda see the little piece of hay in them) Although I haven’t noticed any major differences in her hay intake?

I’ll go find some batteries and take a pic of a normal poop to the light ones…Be Right Back.

Here go: The dark one is her normal poop while the light one isn’t normal. The light ones have been happening since she’s been on meds. I don’t know if the baby food is making her eat more hay?

But does that light color look concerning? Or like Tilly’s poops?

(P.s. they are on a coffee filter.)

Oh, and I should add they are the same size, shape, ect. Just a lighter color…

The light one is almost identical to Tillys normal poops when she’s eating mostly hay and pellets. The more veggies she gets, and while she was on pain meds, they get darker and squishier and look more like the one on the left. Pete’s are usually somewhere in between the two, but tend toward the left, and dry lighter in color. Does that make sense?

I wouldn’t be too worried about it on color alone. Are they drier than normal, perhaps? Maybe mild dehydration? Either that or just a slight decrease in plant proteins? I know it takes very little change in diet to affect Pete’s poop color.

Moxie – the pic is a little dark, but from what I can see, the lighter ones are what poop should look like. Dark ones usually mean the bunny could stand to eat more hay. My M&Ms are hay monsters and their poops are nice sized medium brown with obvious hay “flecks”. Kieko doesn’t eat anywhere near the amount of hay the others eat and her poops are smaller and much darker, although she produces quite a few poops.

Now that you mention it, maybe she has been eating a little less veggies? I know she hasn’t been eating her 3 baby carrots since she’s been on meds. And Moxie has never been a big drinker. I normally wet down her veggies. I’ll try some different things with her diet and see if that does anything. I don’t mind if she has light poops, I just want to make sure she’s okay!

And when the bunny eats candy wrappers and Christmas ornaments, you get sparkly poops ….. (sorry Cottontail, I couldn’t resist!)

JR—Moxie has never been a big hay eater. I make sure she always has it and try to get her to eat more. Maybe she’s just been eating more hay and less veggies/ pellets? She’s been kicking over her bowl a lot so probably isn’t eating the amount she used to.

JR— You know I was thinking of that when I made this thread?

                                  I think she’ll be fine.
Speaking of carrots, I do know that the one time I gave Tilly a FULL baby carrot (I usually give halves) her first couple poos later that night were a bit darker than normal, but didn’t seem to bother her. I’m gonna go on a limb here and say that it’s just the shift away from as many veggies in her diet.

As for the drinking; Pete is not a big drinker either, but I’ll spike his water with a little apple juice if I notice that his water level isn’t going down as fast or I suspect he’s not getting enough. He’ll go from little-to-no-interest to sucking down almost the whole bowl! Maybe a little flavoring would help her to drink more since she’s not getting as many wet veggies?

I’ll just make sure she eats all of her veggies today ect.

Have you checked out the Guide to Bunny Poop? LPT just posted a link to it recently (just do a forum search and you’ll find the thread). It has great info and pics — something every bunny parent should look at.

I searched the thread, found it, and read the article. It was very informative (and a little gross.).
