So I’ve been feeding my bunny a mixture of Timothy and Orchard Grass hay, and I realize now that she likes the orchard grass way more and tends to use the timothy as litter (meaning she just leaves it there and eventually pees on it). When I clean her litter box it’s mostly timothy hay that’s left over. My question is, are there benefits to keep feeding her timothy hay everyday or is orchard grass just as good as timothy? The orchard grass is much cheaper for me (I can buy them in huge bales and split with other bunny owners), but the timothy I have to buy from pet stores because no one near me sells bales of timothy. So I definitely prefer orchard grass; but if timothy is healthier I’m willing to keep feeding both…

Orchard is just fine – it’s a grass hay and recommended. The reason you hear so much about Timothy hay is because it is good but mainly because it seems to be the most easily and readily available in the US. So go with the Orchard Grass!

My bunnies like both, but do prefer orchard grass hay. I give them a mix of both for variety but the mix is mostly orchard. If your bunny just picks out the orchard and leaves the tim, I wouldn’t waste the money on the tim.

We can only use Orchard Grass & Oat hay here! My boyfriend is very allergic to Timothy! The orchard grass is so expensive for me here though! Timothy is the cheapest here, haha!

Wow! can we switch places? haha I get so sniffle-y around the grass hay. I would rather use the Timothy (plus it smells better to me).
