Moxie is getting her Culture and Trachea wash tomorrow morning at 8AM. I’m not supposed to feed her after 4AM. I’m just super nervous… But I have a few questions:

        1) How long does this usually take? We live like 40 minutes away from the vets and I was trying to decide if I should wait at the vets, go home, go to the library or window shop ect.

        2) What are the risks? Is this very dangerous?

        3) Should I expect her to eat right after she wakes up? It’s not really a “surgery” (right?) but she might be really stressed out…

        4) Any tips?

Thanks in advance! And any other advice/knowledge would be great and very much appreciated!

Sorry Moxie. I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t want to be the voice of panic, but I guess I’m a pessimist at heart. I don’t understand the not feeding after 4 a.m. And are they really doing it AT 8:00??? Vets so often tell you to bring them in at a certain time, when they are put on the schedule for anytime during their surgery hours. Like, maybe the vet doesn’t even come in until 9 and does surgery from 10-2 or something like that. So my first question is if they are absolutely planning 8 a.m. The tracheal wash itself shouldn’t take long at all, though I don’t think I ever saw it on more than one or two dogs. Once they are under anesthesia, which doesn’t take all that long to anesthetize them either. So if they’re doing it at 8, I’d stay and go out for breakfast. My guess is that the procedure itself isn’t dangerous, but I really don’t know. And I’d think she would want to eat ASAP when she wakes up. It’s a less invasive surgery than a spay and they eat pretty fast, so…
Wow. I’ll be waiting to hear. Keep us posted.

I know the reception lady gets in at 7 AM and some of the “nurses” and the vets themselves and the other nurses come in at 8 AM, so I’m not sure. They said she’d be out before noon. I’m just a worry wart and am so nervous… I probably won’t even sleep tonight! *sigh* I just hope it goes by quickly, Moxie stays safe, they find out what’s wrong with her and that it’s nothing serious.

I’ll pack a salad for Moxie so that she can eat when we get her.

            I’ll keep you all updated!

The culture/trachea wash went okay, besides taking a LONG time, but they probably didn’t start right when I dropped her off. I have a fully update on the chat thread.
