I have a spayed 1-1/2-year-old double-maned lionhead.  She has an X-pen and gets free time every evening for several hours.  She does not pee outside of her pen and rarely poops!  She has had impeccable urine litter habits inside her pen … until the last month.  Her litter box sits on a ceramic tile.  For the last month, she is CONSISTENTLY peeing on the tile every day instead of inside her litter.  We are not using new litter or a new litter box.  It has always been ‘big’ enough (she is only 4 lb).  Her X-pen has not changed.  We have cleaned the tile with vinegar and water.  We have put the paper towels with the urine back in her litter.  But she STILL is insisting on peeing on the tile.  It’s getting very frustrating.  The only other thing I have considered is getting a LARGER litter box.  Does anyone else have any other suggestions?  We’re just so confused

Have you ruled out any urinary tract issues?

Good question, and the answer is no.  Other than making sure it doesn’t ‘look’ any different, you bring up a great point.  Thank you.

That would be my first thought since it’s such a sudden change. A lot of the time, a UTI doesn’t have any obvious signs pee-wise. What I mean is, their pee might not look noticeably different. But they will often start missing the litter box. So yeah, I would look into that first before exploring other possibilities.
