On Friday I noticed that some of the fur underneath Echo’s nose looked like it was tinged slightly yellow-green…I was worried at first that she had a runny nose, but I couldn’t feel any discharge, so I figured it must just be little particles of her hay coloring the fur by her mouth. I didn’t see it there at all yesterday, but today it’s back. She’s eating, drinking, her eyes are clear and she’s behaving normally, so I’m not really worried but since this has never happened before, I figured I’d just ask if anyone had experienced this before and if it’s anything that I ought to be concerned about.

        Thanks!!

Has she been sneezing at all?

She’ll sneeze very occasionally (like…once a month or something), but it’s nothing new and I haven’t noticed an increase.

Update: I’ve spotted on separate occasions since posting this, two or three tiny green booger-like things in her nose. Unsure whether actual boogers or tiny pieces of hay that got stuck on there.

Another update: Pretty sure she does have a runny nose. My dad’s coming to pick her up tomorrow and take her to the vet.

My dad says that Echo’s nose is clear now and isn’t planning on taking her to the vet, but she still had a runny nose Thursday, so I doubt that it’s actually gone. He said he’d check again, so here’s hoping I can convince him to actually take her in (I told him I’d pay for the vet visit).

I understand how frustrating it is to get a parent to take your rabbit to vet. Maybe show him some articles on why it’s important to take a rabbit to the vets when they show signs of illnesses?

Just spoke with my dad and he said he’d call the vet in the morning. Phew!

Sending (((vibes))) for your vet visit!

My bun Moxie, has a nasal illness right now, and it’s best to catch it early and bring them in.

Thanks!!!! Sending good vibes to you and Moxie as well!!! I’m hoping the vet figures out what’s going on with Echo. I’ve heard so many stories of vets not properly treating nasal problems and assuming they’re just allergies.

I would prepare some questions to ask your vet, if you have any. Know all the symptoms she is having ect. My NEW vet asked all sorts of questions like “Have you noticed any discharge from eyes or ears as well?” Or “Is there anything in your house at all that could be causing an allergic reaction to your rabbit?” Or “Is your rabbit’s behaviour otherwise normal?”
I actually just switched vets because the other vet I had wouldn’t listen to what I was saying or describing, didn’t explain the medicine she was going to be on and side effects and just kept prescribing the same thing (we were on 5 WEEKS) and it wasn’t doing anything. I wish I had switched sooner because my new vet is SO MUCH BETTER! But definitely I would try to catch and treat early (as it sounds like you have).
                                Good luck!

Just got a report from my dad on the vet visit: The vet said she did have some clear discharge from her nose, so she flushed Echo’s nasal passage with saline via her tear ducts. She also checked her teeth (which were fine) and the inside of her front paws where any crusties would have built up from wiping her nose (there were none.) The vet’s suspicion was that some little bit of debris had gotten up in Echo’s nose and was causing the discharge, but had since come out and so the discharge should go away by itself.

                                    That’s great news!

(Although if the discharge continues I would recommend visiting the vet again. )

Thanks!!! My dad’s gonna keep a close eye on her for the next week and then I’ll be home for spring break and will get to check on my lil munchkin (she’s living at my parents until graduation in May because my roommates very suddenly changed their minds on whether they were ok with having a bunny in the apartment.)

That’s only a couple months away, I’m sure you’re very excited to see her again!
