Wasn’t sure if this topic should be here or in House Rabbit Q &A

My new cat is friendly with the bunnies (she’s actually a little afraid of them ) today she began investigating their condo which I was ok with but is it ok if she drinks from their water bowl? I didn’t let her just to be safe, but for future references, should I continue to not let her drink their water? Is there anything in cat’s saliva dangerous for bunnies?

Also, at night, I bring my cat in my room & I don’t trust that she will wait till morning to potty yet so I put a small litter box in my room at night & take it out by morning. I just want to know if anyone knows if the smell of the litter would be bad for the bunnies? They’ve seemed to do fine so far but I just want to be sure. The bunnies don’t have any access to the cat’s box & it’s not a dusty kind of litter at all, says all natural. Here is a photo of the bag if that helps?

Generally clay litter is not a problem for buns if it is screened or out of reach, however bunnies are clever and very good at getting into things that they should not have. Being a clumping clay litter it would be very bad for your bunny if she did manage to get to it and eat some. I would recommend getting your cat the recycled paper litter that is suitable for bunnies and cats or even the wood pellets. Then if your bunny does get into it you don’t have to worry and your kitten will still have a night box.

I’m curious about the drinking thing as well. When we go on vacation we’ll be leaving Pumpkin with a friend and her two cats…

Zoey and Peter have lived in the same space for most of Peters life… and it didn’t take long before they started drinking out of each others water and getting into each others boxes. Because I was worried about Pete eating clay, I actually switched to just buying bunny litter and Zoey will use it with no problems. She’s never been one to dig or cover in the box, so it’s pretty easy to clean up after her in the box. I try to keep her poops cleaned up as quickly as I can and scoop out the wet spots from both of them as needed to keep the box dry/fresh.
Neither one of them has had any issues from the water sharing, and honestly–I think that if you’re okay with them grooming each other and sharing space then you have little to worry about from water contamination. I freshen the water daily since it’s all in bowls and the only problem I ever have from it is that Peter will select pieces of his salad to soak in a water bowl and then the cat won’t drink from that bowl because it’s “contaminated.”

                Haha, contaminated from a vegetable

Well I called the vet too to ask them if rabbits & cats can share water bowls, her answer was “No, that should be fine.” I thought it was weird she first said no & then said it was ok lol, but everywhere I look, it doesn’t seem to be a problem

I also have the situation with my parrot, who is the only pet in the house the cat thinks is dinner! Still haven’t figured out how to get her to just ignore him but while looking up tips, it said to never let your cat lick your bird because their saliva could cause harm from bacteria so it made me wonder if it was the same for bunnies. Sounds to be safe!
