Zeus was doing great with aspen shavings as his litter, but unfortunately he appeared to be allergic to it. So now I’m thinking of trying BinkyBunny litterbox screen, maybe as a surface he will like in the litterbox.

The YouTube video makes the screen look rather lightweight and kind of flimsy for a large breed though. Anyone used it with a large bun?

Do you think expanding or “fluffing” up the wood pellets like you’d do for horses would be more comfortable for him? Or would that compromise the absorbency to much? And be too easily tracked.

Screens are good for easily separating the soiled hay and poops from the litter. If you got one made to be a snug fit, it wouldn’t move around so much once he hops in there. I don’t think you’d have much of an issue with them and he being a larger bun. I’ve used screens for Ailís before. Though mine had sides (like shoebox lids).

When Spockie had some sensitivity and I had some allergies (years ago) we were told to try the Carefresh White litter. I think they take out excess dust with it, because it was better than other litters for allergies and it helped. I love the Aspen too, now, for Sammy.

You can get Aspen pellets, called Green Pet Aspen Supreme Pellets Pet and Bird All Natural Litter, which is in the bird section of Petco. They are pelleted litter, but super absorbant so they last many days with no odor. Just expand with fluids. If he can tolerate hard pellets, and if it’s not the aspen wood but just shavings, it may work for him.

Carefresh is great, but gets expensive. I’m glad to hear RabbitPam suggest Aspen Supreme pellets because I just bought some to try last night. I’m mixing the Aspen Supreme with Carefresh to try to reduce the amount of money I spend on litter. My bunnies like the softness of Carefresh (we use the natural color one), but they pee *alot*. We seem to be able to use less litter by mixing pelleted litter with Carefresh.
