my rabbit has own room, and in his room is an x pen…should I just get rid of the x pen so he has more room? he goes in the x pen when he doesn’t want to be out in his room anymore. Should I just stop using it or is it a good idea to keep? I think he feels safe in there…idk

Hang onto it, you never know when you might need it to isolate him for any reason.

It sounds like he kindof likes having a “home base”. If you decide to take the xpen down, you might want to create an area that’s just his that he can retreat to whenever he wants. I definitely would hold on to the xpen.

I would keep it set up as it is. You can leave the door of it open more or less permanently.

Bunnies don’t view cages as prisons – rather it’s a defined space that is “theirs” and safe harbor. He has a territory he calls all his own in the xpen, no matter who is in the room, so it’s a comforting place for him. If you ever need to move or travel for an extended period, it will be handy to have with you as a familiar place.

You could partially collapse it (fold a couple panels in) so it’s only 2×4 feet rather than the full 4×4 feet if you want to save space but still provide his safe space.

If you did take it out, I would still keep it. Put it away somewhere bc you never know when you might need it again. Some examples: moving or travel, house renovations, if he becomes incontinent in his old age and free range is no longer possible, and, eventually if you get another rabbit…
