I need advice on these baby bunnies. My boyfriend texted me today that a coworker wants to get rid of two baby bunnies. We already have two bonded bunnies, an 8 year old male and a 2 year old female. I do not want to stress out the old bunny with two babies who are 8 weeks old and not sure on sex eaither. Also costs of neutering and how do I even bond two babies with two adults? I told him no but he said the lady really does not want them anymore because they are too much work. Aparently they are too messy for indoors so she keeps them outside and has to change their water every 2 hours because it keeps freezing! I live in Michigan and it is too cold for them! I feel so bad for these bunnies but I also have my own bunnies to think about. I don’t know what to do! My heart says take them while my logic says no. Any advice for me or the coworker would be appreciated.

What are the Rabbit Rescue’s like in your area, do you think the chances are good that if you took them in a rescue would assist you from there ? Is your boyfriend likely to ignore you completely and just bring them home ?
Personally, I have 9 bunnies. They are not all bonded yet but I have them in 3 groups. Several other members also have warrens as opposed to singles or pairs. It can be done but you need to be able to provide separate area until every bunny is spayed or neutered and bonding can begin.
My heart usually rules my head, I would already have the pair installed and be scratching my head wondering what to do next.

Any chance you could foster until you find them another home? Poor bunnies in the cold.

Please put your coworker in touch with a rescue.  You should only take them if you want more bunnies.  It would be a shame to stress a senior bunny.  You can help without adopting!

I know that this is very hard.  I got an e-mail about re-homing a bunny, complete with an adorable picture, the very day that TanLover posted about having taken in another rescue and having re-homed the other three.  I’d gone to BB for moral support to find that.  It was very rough.   However, I knew that I couldn’t take another bunny.  My senior cat wouldn’t take it well at all, and I don’t have the space.  Everyone’s situation is different.  If you feel that you can’t adopt, please don’t feel guilty.  Help to connect the owner & bunnies with a good rescue/ home!

Could you take them to get them out of the cold until you can find homes for them? I hope they haven’t already frozen to death. Is there a reason the co-worker couldn’t bring them inside just until new homes are found?
