I recently adopted a 4 month old mini lop. As a free run bunny she has all the space to bunny 500 and binky as much as she could desire.

Today she bunny 500’ed right into a wall and her nose exploded with blood. After 5 minutes the bleeding stopped and she is completely back to normal, other than the fact that she keeps sneezing, and it seems like she’s having a harder time getting in a good breath. She is eating, drinking and pooping normally. She is still running around now, periscoping, chinning and binkying.

We do have a vet appointment in 2 hours, but Im wondering about the options that exist for broken noses? Google wasn’t helpful. I have  a feeling that this doesn’t happen that often?

Wow! I don’t have any info but wanted to pass on vibes for quick healing and a non-scary vet visit.

I doubt there is much that can be done other than to let it heal if it is even broken. Hopefully all will be okay.

I’m sure that was scary for you. I hope that she only sustained a minor injury and that she will be okay soon.

Oh no! I really hope that all works out well and that she recovers beautifully and continues on with her binkying!

Poor baby! I hope that they’re able to at least find a way to make sure that the airways are clear. I would think at the moment that alot of the difficulty in breathing would be due to swelling if she hit hard enough for blood. She might have simply given herself a bloody nose and not broken anything, which is what I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for. Let us know what the vet says! I hope she is okay.

Has any swelling developed? That would be my biggest concern because it would make it hard to breath. She’s probably sneezing because there is dried blood up there. Glad she’s going to the vet soon, they will want to look at it to make sure it isn’t serious. Let us know what happens!

Update: She (her name is Fishbone) is still carrying on as though nothing happened. She’s nibbling pellet as we speak – hasn’t touched her hay in a while though. Ill let it slide, she’s had a tough day.

Upon examining her nose, there isn’t really any significant swelling that I can see, but I can feel a little nodule – something hard, like a bone chip perhaps, above her right nostril. Im no vet, so I can’t tell if thats normal or not.

She’s definitely sneezing, I have a feeling you’re right about the dried blood.

I heard that rabbits have incredibly hard skulls, so Im really hoping she hasn’t broken her squishy little nose.

Her jaw is fine, Fishbone lets me check in her mouth all the way back to the molars. No damage in her mouth and her jaw is fine, so thats a good sign.

Ill let everyone know what happens after the vet.

Her breathing issue is probably dried blood in the nasal pathways like when humans have a nose bleed. Hopefully nothing got broken. ((((((((Fishbone))))))))

                              How did the appt go?

I really don’t know what the vet would do, even when people break their nose, it pretty much just has to heal if surgery isn’t needed for correction.

How did the vet appointment go? and WOW what an athletic (but clumsy) bunny!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing Beka! I don’t think there is much to do but heal -hopefully it goes well!
