My rabbit Heidi (unspayed but planning to) was moody the past 2ish weeks and about 5 days ago she tried to build a nest in the litter box. She pulled a little bit of fur and when I changed the litter she started to pull again. She pulled a lot of fur for the second time. I read around that it takes about a month to get out of this behavior when she realizes that she did not give birth to kits. I also read that you should put more nesting materials around so she won’t pull more fur. Then today when I was feeding her a treat she got all excited and stood up, this is when I saw a long large bald spot on her belly. It’s about 5-6cms long and about 2 cms wide. It seems abnormally large and she has not pulled in about two days. Any advice or suggestions???

Could she be shedding too? I remember Wooly looking ridiculous with a practically bald belly for almost a month because all his fur fell out down there when he was having a crazy shed.

If she is having a false pregnancy, then let her keep her nest for the time being. If you keep destroying it, then she is just going to want to rebuild it. You can get rid of it once she loses interest.

She’s not really shedding that much. When I brush her, only a little bit of fur comes out. I haven’t moved the 2nd nest, and it looks like I shouldn’t then. She has been peeing and pooping right next to the box anyways. I guess that’s the price of not having a completely bald bunny.

              You might consider spaying her.
