Firstly I need to catch up with my rescue friend and smack him up side the head for not mentioning this sooner, either that or phone his lovely wife, Kel, and have her do it for me, I know she will.

Things have been very tight lately and I was in mortal terror of going into flea season and not being able to afford to treat 9 bunnies and 3 cats for the nasty little myxo carrying sods.

As synchronicity would have it a member on the Australian Rabbit Network asked a question about flea prevention and control and of course we all recommended Revolution. We can buy it freely here and the Puppy and Kitten ampules are already the perfect dosage size for a 5-6 pound bunny (I hope that’s right I am used to metric).

I was mentioning the cost when Rey pipes up and says that with his 40 odd Piggies and Bunnies he buys the adult cat then sorts the dosage with a 1ml oral syringe for easy application to the back of the ears/neck. I mentioned I had not thought of this and headed off to investigate…. WEEELLLLLLBUGGERMESIDEWAYSWITHAFISHFORK!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you know that the cost of 3 ampules of 60mg/ml solution of selamectin in .25ml ampules is only $2.00 less than a pack of 3 ampules of the same solution in .75ml ampules. A pack of 3 puppy kitten up to 2.5 kg will dose 3 rabbits, a pack of 3 cat 2.7-7.5 kg will dose 9 rabbits of average weight for only $2 more (The costs are based on a very popular online pet supply place I use) When you start looking at the pack of 6 which works out to .75ml for $39 as opposed to 4.50ml for $77

This is how it works out

        Revolution Puppy and kitten AUD39.00 = .75ml @ $52 per ml

        Revolution CatX3  2.7-7.5kg AUD40.99 = 2.25ml @ $18.20 per ml

        Revolution CatX6 2.7-7.5kg AUD76.99 = 4.5ml @ $17.00 per ml

Now take into account I can get this product via a discount pet warehouse in Queensland, original product, free delivery for $54 for a six pack which makes it $12.00 per ml. Cost of a dosing syringe ? Free from vet or approx $1 from chemist.

This means every thing furry gets treated for a third of what it usually costs me each season…. Where’s Rey, I need to smack him, why couldn’t he mention this 3 yrs ago ?

I hate to admit this Roberta, but with 3 (4 at one time) small dog’s – I always got the Revolution for large dog’s and divvied it up. I never mentioned it cause I didn’t want to get bagged. But one thing I DID do, was buy the puppy/kitten Revolution for Henry separate cause I was worried that it was such a NO-NO!
So, are you saying I can include Henry into the mix when fleaing the dog’s with the Large dog dose pack??? Did I read that right???

My vet told us to buy the large dog advantage when we used to buy it for the dogs, cause it was cheaper to just spread the dose of a large one to multiple dogs than buy for small ones. Glad it’s a trick that can be used for buns too.

Yes Andi, Just use the chart and get a small 1 ml oral syringe from the vet or chemist. The dog one is 120mg concentrate so you need to use that application from the chart. So for a 2kg bunny it’s 1/10 th or 0.1ml. The 1ml syringe is marked in tenths so it would be easy.

THANK YOU Roberta! I always wondered, but wasn’t game – this is gonna save me a fortune!

PS – And the dog’s and Henry share nearly everything else…. why not flea treatments! Lol!
                    Thanks again!
