Hi. I’m Benji, and my rabbit is Nate. I’m a first time rabbit owner, and have spent the past three days looking around this site for advice and rabbit care info. I decided I’d join, in case I have any questions. I am new to rabbits, but have been keeping small pets for half of my life. Hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. When I found Nate, I was actually seeking a guinea pig pair, but he kind of fell into my life. I know that rabbits are quite different from hamsters and gerbils (the pets I’ve had most recently), so as soon as I knew I was getting a rabbit, I took to research. I have tried to find a book, but been unsuccessful, so I wound up here on binkybunny. He came with a cage, but I’m not happy with the size. So, I plan on extending it (probably using a playpen of some sort) soon. I’ve been peeking around to get ideas for that, and to learn how to bunny proof his area. Nate seems mostly tame already, although a bit nervous. So, I’m letting him settle in before I handle him too much as I don’t want to scare him. I’ve picked up a lot of supplies, and I think he’s mostly good to go for now. I’m really excited about him. He seems to be a sweet little guy, and I’ve always had a soft spot for rabbits. I plan on sticking around for a while, as I want to make sure I do things right. So, hi again, I look forward to being around for some time.

Welcome to rabbit world. Playpens are great for rabbits but look a bit shabby in the house. There are wooden chicken coops that have opening tops, look good and are large. If you buy linoleum sheet to put underneath you’ll have a nice enclosure for him.
The coop will set you back about $150. You should keep the rabbit in an area where lots of people will see him…then he gets used to getting attention.

Welcome! Can’t wait to see pictures of your new bunny!

Dog exercise pens (xpens) work great with bunnies, come in various heights (go taller when in doubt), can be arranged in just about any shape, are easy to clean, and look better than most cages (the black xpens are pretty see-through). NIC condos are great as well. I haveva NIC condo for my single bun and then have 3 xpens attached together fir my bonded pair. Alot if people attach an xpen to a condo or cage, space permitting. Check out the habitats pics in the Bunny Info section of this website.

Nate seems like a darling and very spoiled too. I would love to see pictures!

Thank you all for the welcomes, and the ideas. I hadn’t thought of the coop. But my sister keeps chickens, and knows where I could get some rather easily. I’ll definitely be looking into it. And I like the idea of linoleum. I’ve, also, been looking at dog playpens. I had checked out some of the ‘rabbit’ ones at pet specialty stores… but found most of them looked either too short or too flimsy (if not both). I could not imagine most of them working long term. I’ve been looking at the habitats to get some ideas. A lot of them look so nice. I’m sure I’ll find something that works. And I’ll make sure he’s in a spot where he gets a lot o f interaction.

I do have some pictures. I will probably be posting them soon. I just have to add them to my computer. Thanks again.
