Hi everyone! I’m very new to this but I do have a question about my new baby bunny! I got him about a week ago and everythings going fine (accept for the constant pooping and weeing on the lounge ?). Anyway I have noticed that Benson has abit of a greasy looking coat where his ears meet the top of his head and down his neck. The rest of his fur is perfect. The fur kind of clumps together in little spikes. He is cleaning himself regularly but he seems to stay very oily in these areas. Also the fur behind the ears is quite thin. Is this normal? I can see his skin in this area. I went to the vet today and she said it may be stress related or from petting him too much. He seems perfectly happy here though? Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Would pet friendly wipes help or would it make it worse?? Please help!

It’s normal for the fur at the back of the neck behind the ears to be a bit thinner than the rest of his coat. Is he a lop ? is it possible it’s caused by rubbing against the inside of his ears as they move ? I don’t have lops but I have heard they get a bit waxier than uppity ears.

Hello! Welcome to BB. I think I can help here. My Luna (black lop like yours) has very thin hair on her neck and top of her head. The black ones seem to have a naturally glossier/thinner coat. Buns typically have thinner hair at the base of their neck and head. Couple this with the contrast of the black on their skin color and it appears very thin. Totally normal. My Luna specifically likes being pet only behind her ears and slightly down her spine. She enjoys long sessions of this type of pet. Similar to how hands affect human hair, the oil on your skin will work it’s way into your buns fur. I think this is totally normal, and it actually happens to Luna quite frequently. If you want to compare Luna with Benson, I would be happy to message you some pictures of her neck (but I can assure you we’re both talking about the same thing). Binky on benson!

That sounds pretty normal to me too. If the greasy hair bothers you/her, you can try brushing some corn starch through the area and see if that helps at all.

If you think that the coat is just a little dirty or greasy you could use pet safe wipes on your bun bun. I have seen them in the small pet section in my local pet store. So they’re completely safe for your bunny and get The job done.
                  Hope this helped a bit!!
