My rabbit Jefferson has been falling over randomly in his litter box. I took him to a vet and they said he was fine. He has stopped eating his pellets but still eats his veggies. I found him on the side of the road about a month ago.

Is it possible it is old age?

        Does he have worms?

        Ear infection?

He has not gained ANY weight in his back end. You can completely feel his hips and spine.

        Any ideas are welcome.

        Please help

Hey JD. I replied in your other thread – please try and call another vet and describe what you have to us. I would be concerned too. Thinking of you both – take care and vibes to (((((Jefferson))))).

Hi JD, This is definitely a concern, there are several gut parasites that can cause infections that result in head tilt in addition to strokes etc. Please call your vet again asap. Do you have any critical care on hand ? Can you advise what if any, antibiotics were given to Jeffersen ?

http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/tilt.html This is a good article on head tilt. It might help to direct your vet to this and see if he thinks it’s relevant as it may assist in what medication to provide it may also prompt your vet to contact someone with greater knowledge who can talk them through treatment.

Thanks for all the answers everyone!
He is eating critical care at the moment and seems to really like it. He hasn’t been falling over as much but is still very week in his back right side and his front right leg too. I am going to call the vet today and tell her that he is not okay just so she knows. I will keep you posted on how he is doing. I am really hoping it was a stroke because I know he will recover from that in a couple months.
Any other info is greatly appreciated!

Is it possible he could have lyme disease? He lived in the woods for about three weeks before I found him.

And also I am taking him to a different vet. This lady is and exotic pet vet and has seen lots of rabbits. So happy I found her really hoping she can help Jeffy.

                      UPDATE!
He just has an ear infection! Took him to an AMAZING vet and she really looked at him and gave him a real checkup. She gave me some banana flavored anti biotics and said I should see improvement in a couple days! Thanks so much for all the answers guys!

I’m so glad you figured out what was up with him!
If you’re still concerned about him gaining weight you could always try getting him some oat groat. My bun goes nutty for them, and they’re great as a treat, in small quantities, or for helping bunnies gain weight, in larger quantities. I mix a tablespoon in with my bun’s pellets when he’s feeling picky.

That’s great news JD. Hopefully with that diagnosed and being treated he may start to gain some weight. You can always keep feeding some Crit care too to bolster his diet and help with the weight gain.

Keep us posted. Ear infections aren’t necessarily a quick thing to cure, especially if it’s affecting motor skills. I’d be very interested though to hear how he progresses and what meds he is on

He is already a little better today. Eating better too. He will be on the meds for two weeks so I will let you all know how it goes
