I recently rescued a dutch mini lop mix from the side of the road. I have had him for about a month or so now. I have one other bunny and she is very energetic and always running. My new bunny, Jefferson, does not (and also don’t worry they are separated) hop around really. When I let him out he either doesn’t come out at all and sits in his litter box, or sits under my bed. He eats fine, but he really hasn’t gained any weight. He is a super sweet boy and is very snuggly and friendly. Do you guys think he is just a really mellow bunny? or is he sick? I really hope he is okay. Please let me know what you think and if you want any more info on him just ask.

        Thanks

While he is probably still settling into his new home, its always a good idea to take a new bunny to the vet for a checkup to make sure there aren’t any issues needing to be addressed. Especially since you found him on the road and don’t know his past (nutrition, etc.), I would definitely take him to a rabbit savvy vet.

The problem is that we don’t have any rabbit vets in sturbridge or in the surrounding towns. :\

Even a non rabbit savvy vet will do in the extreme especially if they are willing to phone an exotics vet to get advice.

I have only taken my other bunny, Daisy< to the vet because she had an allergic reaction. I found a vet in Webster Mass. and Jefferson has an appointment this afternoon at 2:45.
I think he has tape worms. Really hoping they can treat him.
                        thanks for all the answers

Hi JD, It’s great that you have a vet. Bunnies don’t usually get tape worms but there’s always a first time. The most common worms in bunnies are pin worms and they are often visible in the poop. You might want to contact Sturbridge and tell them to change their website as it states there they treat pocket pets, it’s false advertising.
Let us know how Jefferson goes at the vet.

They told me he is fine but I don’t think he is. He started falling over tonight and it’s really scaring me. Could it be head tilt? Or maybe a stroke?

Gosh JD, I read your other thread and I didn’t answer cause I truly don’t know??? But I get your concern and distress seeing you have added to this thread. I wish I could help, but I can’t.
I’m torn between trusting your vet that you have recently seen and what your describing – my first reaction is to take him to the vet, it really doesn’t sound right – sorry!
I would be concerned – gosh, I hate saying that when no one else is on at the moment to correct me if I’m wrong. But if it was my bunny, I would be taking him back to the vet. Can you call a vet hospital and describe what you have here and see what they suggest you should do?
I am so sorry JD. hopefully other member’s are not to far away – but I’d call.
