So last night while Philomena was running around I had my hoodie on the floor (just to see if she would tr to burrow in it or play in it). She kept sniffing it but I didn’t think much of it. I started cleaning her cage while she was preoccupied with my hoodie and she runs up to my feet, which is no surprise since she is always interested when I clean her cage. Well, when I was done I was sitting on the couch watching T.V. when I noticed she had blackberry on the top of her nose. Needless to say I had to get a picture. After I leaned down and took the picture she started running at my feet again. At the time I couldn’t tell that it was lunging.

This is when she starts really freaking me out. I put my hand out to her after she was done going after my feet (remember I didn’t know that it was lunging I honestly thought she was excited because she could smell the raspberry on her nose still and thought I had some). She then lunged at my hand bit it and left a nasty bruise. That’s when I knew that I had done something wrong. There was no growling or stomping just attack. I shifted my feet and she then went after them again. every time she was done chasing my feet away she would run straight to my hoodie and watch me with those crazy bunny eyes. I couldn’t move without her trying to go after me.

Eventually she moved away from the hoodie and I could get it away from her. Then after she saw that it was gone and couldn’t find it anymore, she sprawled out and let me walk away again. When she seemed calm enough I sat down on the floor again and sh came right up to me, I gave her my hand as a peace offering and she chinned me.

I don’t know what came over her… The only thing I can think of is that she was upset by the jacket because I might have taken it to Jack’s pets and when I go there I play with the bunnies. So it might have smelt like them and she didn’t like that. Other than that I don’t know what I did wrong. She’s spayed so I know its not hormones.

Wow, my first thought would have been moody hormonal teenager becoming territorial over the hoodie. Since she’s spayed, the only thing I can guess is that it smelled like another bunny (and you’d been cheating on her!). I wouldn’t have expected her to get lungy and bitey though, I would have expected her to pee on it to mark it.

The another-bunny’s-scent on the hoodie is the only explanation I can think of.

Sometimes rabbits don’t recognize shapes of things and that scares them. It most likely is that she doesn’t like the hoodie.

I think she doesn’t like the smell of other bunnies. Would it make sense that when she smelled the rabbits on my hoodie that she thought that there was a rabbit nearby and that my hands and feet were rabbits? As Sarita said rabbits can’t recognize shapes so my hands and feet became rabbits to her? She still seems a bit on edge but its more like she’s grumpy and alert instead of mad and attacky.
