        Hi,

I just got a bun from the local pound.  They don’t fix rabbits there (not sure why) but I would like to have her spayed.

I’m wondering if/how long I should wait to have it done.  Should I let her settle in first?  Or should I get it done sooner rather than later and then work with getting her settled after the surgery.

She’s a bit timid now but she’s eating well and is not aggressive at all.

        Thanks

I’d say there’s no big rush. I’d personally get her settled in for a month or so. If she needs TLC she will be more
Accustomed to you and you may be more attuned to her cues as well. You’ll know her favorite foods to offer. And it will feel more like home when she returns after surgery.

I’m normally a fan of spaying as soon as possible, but I agree with Megabunny here. Knowing her cues and knowing what her favorite foods are can be a big help right after surgery. Also, since she’s already home with you, waiting a month will help her settle in and know where “home” is and give her a chance to make it smell like her which may comfort her when she comes home from the spay surgery.

              thanks, both of you

i was leaning the same way but i do worry about breaking her trust by traumatizing her once she’s adjusted to her new life

i agree with you two though, it’s best to wait and let her know she’s safe and has a home here with us .. who knows what went on at the pound and with whoever had her before that

Oh I totally get that. It would have been my argument for having her done right away, but for her sake, seems like waiting a bit is the way to go. She’ll be happy you brought her home from the vet and will likely not hold it against you and be happy for extra attention as she heals.
