My 6lbs rabbit has started shedding very badly. Just when you pet her, you have a hand full of hair. I brush her and even use a furminator on her and it gets A LOT of hair off (it flies everywhere) but its like it doesn’t get it all or even make a dent in the amount of loose fur she has. Anyone have any suggestions on how to help remove all the loose fur and a good method of keeping it from flying all over the house? Please and thank you.

My bunny is half Lionhead, so shedding has always been a huge issue in our house. I ended up lining his enclosure with doormat-sized rugs, and placing two around the house on the places he likes to sit. Wool especially seems to attract all the fur, and he *loves* having his own rugs to mark up. With all the tubing and flopsing, most of his fur adheres to the rugs, instead of flying all around the house and into my nose. The one downside is that I have to clean them with a fur roller, because my vacuum just can’t seem to pick up all the fuzzles.

The BB store sells the hairbuster comb and it works really well. It has a rubber ribbon woven through the teeth of the comb and it catches and holds the fur as you comb. The furminator works pretty well at removing loose fur, but you do have to “empty” it frequently when brushing (I use one on Kieko, but use the hairbuster on my lops). As far as fur all over the house, well, that’s part of living with a bunny I’m afraid!

Her fur was only getting everywhere when I would brush her. It would fly everywhere and not stay in the brush or even make it to where I could take the hair out of the brush. Its such soft hair it just flies everywhere. I’ll brush her for a good while, even use a small animal furminator and you can still pinch her hair and without even pulling (just pinching) hair comes off her. She has no skin showing, no balding patches, just lots of shedding. Is it normal for that much? Or should I be concerned?

Tis the season! I’ve often taken different rabbits outside and just gone nuts w/ the brush and let the fur fly, but, of course, it has to be a rabbit that isn’t going to fly out of your arms too. But it all sounds normal and you’ll likely have to deal with this at least twice a year, though apparently they shed every 3 or 4 months. I notice it really bad twice a year, along with the dog. You just can’t get it all at one time.

Kieko’s shedding now too. I brushed her tonight and ended up with a pile of fur 3 times the size of her head, and she’s a short-haired bunny!
