My bun’s got this huge roundish wound on her back. Looks like it’s quite red, and in the middle of the wound there’s some ingrown hair or maybe hair growing out? Should I try topical remedies and wait, or go to vet? Just got hold of a camera and took these shots. The middle bit actually looks like a scab that got lodged inside the wound?

Definitely take her to the vet, that looks pretty nasty.

I think the wound was healing, turned to a scab, but got scratched again so it’s all red around the half way peeling scab so it looks like it’s lodged inside the wound. Vet’s open tomorrow morning. Will see if I can book an appointment.

Just seen the nurse and vet surgeon. Wasn’t happy with the nurse trying to pull off the scab so the dead tissue won’t get in the way of the new skin coming out. My rabbit was trying to climb and dig at me when she tried to pluck the scab off.

Got hibiscrub to clean the wound, ivermectin to kill parasites if there are any and some surolan for the itch. Surolan is meant for dogs and cats lol, and meant to apply on the ears. -_____- Fur got shaved off so I can see the wound more easily now.

Am I imagining things or does the wound look worse off after it’s been cleaned and the nurse attempted to pull off the scab?

There will be some swelling and redness when a wound gets cleaned up like that. Sometimes it’s necessary to remove the scab to clean everything out and start “fresh”. Getting the fur out of the way was a good idea too. I would give it some time. It should look better after awhile. Isn’t Surolan anti-fungal? I wonder why they didn’t give you an antibiotic ointment.
