New bunny owner.  I had been looking, and reading, I even borrowed my son’s girlfriends bunny for a week… all to see if a bunny would fit with our house, and vice versa.  I have 2 younger children, a teenager, and my husband and I both work full time.  After about 3 days with Harry I was hooked.    Dear hubby on the other hand wasn’t quite sold. He being more realistic about costs and effort and taking into consideration my energy levels due to MS.  We visited pet stores, considered breeders, and looked at shelters.  The following weekend (he was out of town) I saw an add for bunny and cage $20.  When I went to see her they had her in a makeshift cage, off the ground outside.  Her previous cage was being washed out to remove the “mulch” she had for bedding.  I was a bit in shock to be honest, after everything I had read up to that point.

When I asked if she was litter trained, the response was “oh yeah, she goes in her cage, out of it”.  I noticed her matted fur in a couple areas  and the clincher was when my son pointed to a purple spot on her back and asked “is that wax”. Granted it wasn’t a huge spot, but I digress.  The response was “Well you see, what happened was, I was painting…”  By this time I am holding her, and she is super super soft.

Knowing she deserved better I fished out my 20 bucks and we had a new member of the family.  The ting is, when one is expecting they have 9 months to consider a name… I have looked through lists, made my own, but nothing seems to stick.

Any suggestions? She is white with black spots, likes to eat, and jump, and is somewhat curious.

Annie, Pepper, Dottie… so many name possibilities.
I’m happy to hear that she has a proper home now. I do a lot of painting myself, and I would be mortified if any got near my fur-babies… I can’t imagine not spoiling them rotten and keeping them safe. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your new bunny! And welcome to the forums!

So glad you got her out of that place!

Names . . Do you like cute names, traditional names, etc? Don’t have any idea why, but Sally popped in my head when I was reading your post. Pics definitely help with names!

I added some photos in the album on my profile.  Can you guys see that?

I only have 3, mainly because I am trying to build some trust with her, and spent time interacting, letting her explore her new home.

Today when she had floor time, I had blocked one area so she couldn’t get under the book case. oooohhhh she sat tall and thumped her back legs.

and she jumped for the first time, onto the ottoman.

Names – I kind of like silly names, or unique names.  My son’s GF named hers Harriett, until she discovered he was a biy… now they just call him Harry. LOL.  I was telling my hubby that her coat of reminded me of Cruela DeVil – but she was not a sweet character.

I am not happy with her little cage. I guess it is the standard one at the pet shops that goes for $60.  I am envisioning something a little more roomy.  My intent is for her to (in time) only be in when I am at work.  we have quite a bit of bunny proofing to do.

Maybe another 101 name? Perdita, Cadpig (book only), or another character.

You could always name her Henrietta and call her Henri for short — then you all would have “Henry” and Harry….

                      Hi.
I couldn’t see the pics, but here are a few names:
                      Cinna-bun or Cinna-bun Roll.
                      Amaryllis (Am-uh-rill-iss) (It’s a type of Lily)
                      Belle
                      Holly
                      Hershey Kisses
                      Annabelle
                      Jackie
                      Sasha.
Those are just a few suggestions to get the ideas rolling.

ok so I liked Perdita – Perdi for short. The family likes Fluffy Buns, LOL.

My hubby says “This should be a family decision”. I agreed… that once the family shared in the responsibility of feeding, clean up, and other responsibilities… He says ” Fine. Perdi it is.”

                        Thanks for all your help.

I am now starting to visually plan on a new indoor bunny habitat. We have a very large 3 ft x 3 ft foot stool that her current cage is on. This allows her to look out the window. I will start a new post for ideas collection. so excited.

As a mom of 3 boys – I always said when I had a girl she would be so spoiled

Late welcome from me to you and little Perdi-she is adorable!
Have you thought about an NIC cube condo? If you go to “bunny info” at the top of this page, under “habitats” (I think?) there should be a bunch of pictures of wonderful bunny accommodations.

Absolutely terrible about the paint. My Clarice had a stain from a mixed alcoholic drink when we rescued her. It fadesaway with time, but is always a reminder of what she escaped. It’s been a month for Clarice, and her’s is still faintly red, about an inch in diameter. We don’t ever think it’ll go away. Not sure we want it to, it isnt harming her, but it makes us remember how much we’ve helped her. Thanks for saving her, from all of us here. I really can’t understand people who mistreat their animals. They’re sick.
