        Its 11 in the night right now. The vet prescribed Flagyl to Moshu. 1 ml twice a day. She did not mention mg per ml.

        I am so damn scared right now. I checked Medirabbit and another rabbit medicine calculator and it says Flagyl should be 20 mg/kg, twice a day. I checked that the medicine is 40 mg per ml. The doctor prescribed her 80 mg per day.

        I’ll call the vet the first thing in the morning but please tell me what to do in the mean time. I fed her water through dropper hoping that will flush it out quicker and some veggies to eat since she’s not having anything.. and she’s seeming a bit lethargic and weak. Please help me with what I can do in the mean time. I am browsing through articles as well besides keeping an eye on her.

          UPDATE : I gave her Anima Strath Yeast Supplement. After having this, she had two pieces of capsicum and let me hand feed her hay..something which she wasnt letting me do all day. She’s having a sleep in loaf position right now. The over dose of antibiotic might have made her feel weak..

            many humans feel rubbish while taking flagyl (Metronidazole) so it might be the same for bunnies, surely the vet should have worked out the dose in line with how many mg are in an ml, certainly that’s a big part of my medication round when I am on placement as a student nurse. I would call the vet to be sure in the morning though

              I will call the vet tomorrow morning. I dont know if its working like a placebo on me but she’s seeming much better (she’s more active) after taking the supplement. Considering the dosage, it should be 0.5 ml from tomorrow. I am relieved to see her active and eating.

                I would definitely call them to clarify the dose, they definitely should have checked her weight then worked out the dose in relation to the mg/ml ratio of the bottle they gave you. Seriously though, Flagyl knocks the stuffing out of most humans that take it so I wouldn’t worry if she is just a little lethargic as long as she is eating and peeing/pooping. Hopefully the vet will give you info on the right dose and tell you if you should maybe hold off for a day due to her having so much of it so far, remember to tell them exactly what you have given her.

                  Hi Avantika,
                  Just saw your post. It will probably make her feel a bit off but thankfully it’s not toxic.
                  Let us know how she is doing.

                    @Kirstyol and @Roberta
                    Moshus is doing okay. Her appetite fluctuates every now and the but she’s doing okay otherwise. I was really scared when I realized I gave her the double of what is considered the safe dose range (20 mg per kg, twice a day). Thanks two of you

                      In humans it is not unusual for a doctor to prescribe a much higher dose of antibiotics for an extreme infection. (Had that once with a tooth) still check with your vet as to the reason the dosage is so high. My vet did the same recently with my Pipi but I think he over estimated her weight due to her coat being full. Iam glad to hear Moshu is doing OK… Keeping up the vibes for you and your baby.

                        Roberta..the vet did not even ask her weight.. *sigh* Little Moshu is only a kilogram. Vets here are not very meticulous. She’s still pretty reliable. I think its me who should take care of the dosage and other stuff as much as I can.. Thanks a lot for the kind words

                          oh dear! I can’t believe she prescribed meds without taking a weight! -Well good on you for noticing and glad she’s doing ok though! Did the vet apologize?

                            Being the socially anxious and timid kid that I am, I did not argue with her, but just told her that she overdosed her..v__v
                            90 % of all the pet rabbits in my country are Florida Whites, who do not exceed more than 1.5 kg in weight. But obviously, the vet wasnt sure with the safe dosage range.. You can imagine how dependent I am on web sources and binkybunny for the right information.
