Hello! I want to start by saying that I am so happy to be a part of this site and that I am the happiest new bunny owner I have been wanting a bunny for a couple of years now, I used to spend all of my time researching bunnies, taking care of them, bonding, etc and 3 days ago I finally had the opportunity to buy my own bunny!

He is a 7 week old lionhead named Leo and he is amazing, so far he has been such a good boy. I do really want to litter train him though and I know it becomes easier once he is neutered but for now I want to do all I can. I have read lots of advice so I have tried moving his litter box around to places where he likes to go (which seems to be pretty much anywhere in his cage for the most part haha) I put hay in the litter box and I havnt given him full freedom around my living room yet,(he is just in my small room where his cage is until he is trained.

It is so hard to tell when he is going to go so I dont see until AFTER it happens and by that point it is sometimes too late. Do I just reward him when he is in the litterbox? Do i put food in the litterbox? Or just hay?

Also is it a good idea to give them blanket/towel bed type thing so that he has something he is familiar with when he is not home? At night he sleeps on this towel i put in his cage which he likes but obviously he pees and poos in it at night…should I take the towel away?

Any tips and advice I would greatly appreciate it!!

He is still young actually 1 week younger than recommended to leave mama. Babies usually do not use mama’s litter box. This is probably a dominance issue.
Put newspaper down all over the floor of an enclosed area. Usually an animal playpen works fine. Place all poop into the litter box. Cut out paper he has peed on and put it in the box also.
As far as the towel goes he eventually will not pee on it. Make sure it is 100% cotton. Rabbits will chew towels to sharpen their teeth. Polyester fibers cannot be broken down like natural fibers and will clog the rabbit’s intestines. We almost lost one of our rabbits who chewed synthetic fibers. She chewed cotton towels with no problem.

Thanks! I checked and the fowl is 100% cotton Also he is doing so well! i let him out pretty much all day yesterday and today and had no accidents
I will be brining him with me to stay at my parents house for a couple of weeks during xmas and I am worried he will forget how to do his business in the litter box once he is in a new environment….do you think he will be fine or is there anything i can do so that he can continue to use the litter box even in another house?
