Not eating isn’t always a concern. Depending on the time of year, they can go some time without eating. It’s something we go through every winter where I work. Everyone just goes into winter mode. They don’t eat much or do much. LOL

                      His shed went okay then?

If he ever has trouble, there is a trick you can use. Wet a pillowcase with water and secure him inside it. Then set him under a heat lamp and let him crawl around in there for awhile. The moisture and friction works wonders for tricky sheds.

He ate I’m so happy but we didn’t put his hide back in time and now he’s under the news paper so we have to wait to put everything back where it goes so we don’t upset his tummy

Firefly is now 260 grams and is eating 2 small rat pups per meal (I would switch to a bigger more appropriate sized rat but I want to use up what I have first) he’s about 2 feet long I think it’s about time to switch out his cage to a bigger one but we’ve only had him for month and I don’t want to move to fast for him, he is about as long as the cage.

He’s getting big! I think it’s okay to feed smaller sized food for now so you can use it up. It won’t hurt him any.

Aww I love BP’s! And the name Firefly is adorable! I have one myself. My Whiskey is 900g and lives in a 4ft PVC cage. I had him in a glass tank at first (for around a month or so) but had humidity issues that annoyed me to no end. So after the last bad shed I gave up and bought the pvc cage.

                                        This is my Whiskey.

I agree what a cutie also what’s a PVC cage? Firefly’s last shed wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t one long piece like it’s supposed to be either it was like a middle sized piece falls off and then another middle sized piece (they aren’t small so I’m thinking the humidity is ok). So the sheds aren’t great but not horrible either. None of it was stuck on him except for his little tail which I carefully removed after it wasn’t removed on it’s own within the time limit that the rest of his skin shed off. Can you put a picture of Whiskey’s cage on here?

The PVC enclosure I have is made of 1/2″ Controlled Density PVC.

I have an older picture from when he was young that my former roommate took. There are now bigger hides and a huge water bowl and different substrate (ECO Earth).

It is basically rigid sheets of 1/2″ thick PVC.

So Firefly is now 303grams of cuteness, we took him out Sunday for handling time and Josh (my BF) was about to take a picture and the flash went off and poor Firefly musta been super scared because he went all over the bed luckily the sheets and pillows needed to be washed anyway. All I can say is snakes can pee/poop a lot at once . Also he was in shed which went a LOT better this time because we were constantly checking the humidity and kept it at like 75% the whole time. The shed was one long shed which is shown here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206088201389277&l=aca3e405c6 you gotta copy and paste it into the search bar

Haha! That was protocol where I worked. If the snake had eaten, but hadn’t pooped, then you didn’t take it anywhere because having them poop in the snake bag was pretty much a given.

Lucky for him she wasn’t fazed and didn’t throw him or something.

Question how do you give snakes baths? not that Firefly needs one he’s a very clean snake but just in case

We were always told to use “spring” water or water without chlorine. You get the water lukewarm. It can’t be too hot and you don’t want it cold. We would just put the snake in a tub with a lid, let them soak for awhile, and then take them out and dry them off. No soap or anything.

Now when he goes in his hidey it lifts up a little bit because of his coils so Josh’s dad and mom kindly donated us an old fish tank (about 30 gallons) even though it was super dirty (has been sitting outside for the past year or so) and also had frozen fish pebbles at the bottom >.> so Josh cleaned it up and it looks almost like new. We’re going to set it up tonight I’m sure he’ll be happy to have a little more room to wiggle in. Poor guy is just growing so fast.

He’s also eating small rats now just gotta finish up these rat pups first (he’s eating about 3 each week now they are really small) but I can’t wait until they’re gone and he can eat a proper sized meal *he’s getting the correct amount of food it’s just weird to feed him 3 of them a week).
