I was just feeding Pamper 1/8 of a cherry and she stole the cherry stem and ate it! Will she be okay? I think I read somewhere a long time ago that a part of the cherry is toxic or poisonous. I’m not sure.

Usually it is the pit of the fruit. In the stomach certain phytochemicals break down to hydrogen cyanide. It is not in the stem.
If she ate a pit a vet can treat the cyanide problem.

The pits and leaves are very toxic. From what I can see online it looks like the stem has the same posion but in a very small dose. So I would keep a super close eye and watch for any symptoms. Maybe keep an eye for 24-48. You can also call your local emergency vet and ask for more info-i.e. what to watch for, and what to do etc.

Oh no! The only rabbit-savvy vet in town is on vacation! What can I do? I’m freaking out! What are the symptoms I should look out for?

I honestly don’t think you need to worry about one stem. The amount cyanid would be extremely small. Don’t freak out.

Okay. I figured. I’ll still keep an eye on her. Thank you for the answers!

I give Porky cherry stems, he’s never had the least trouble from them. Dosage is everything with stuff like this. The dose in a single cherry stem is minuscule.
