How can I get Bun Bun to eat more hay? He has unlimited access to bluegrass hay which is the sweetest kind of hay I can buy. I feel like he’s not eating as much as he should/could because his poop are like uneven sizes.

Does he like dried herbs like mint? If he does, try sprinkling some on top of the hay to entice him. I also wanted to ask how old he is. I can’t remember. =\ Anyway, sometimes hay eating is something that comes with age. Has he always snubbed the stuff?

He’s turning 2 tomorrow! I’ve never been able to find dried forage so I’ve never really tried. I don’t have a dehydrator either. Before I got him, I don’t think he got much hay so I feel like he eats it because he knows he has to but he’d rather not.

Have you tried feeding him second cut timothy hay or orchard hay? I would try a variety of hays, not just the sweetest available.

When Pumpkin wasn’t eating enough i starting putting hay in new places…for example i put some in a box in the living room and some in a paper bag in her room. i think it was exciting b/c it was new and different and she came across it more often in new places. Plus at the time she was spending a significant amount of the day in her cage so she didn’t want to go in there to eat too.
