Mr Roger is decidedly displeased about me having cleaned his cage. He stayed quite close when I first started cleaning it but then went off round the room, checking back occasionally to let me know he wasn’t happy about it.

Now it’s done, he’s spent a good 10 minutes going around the outside of the cage and stopping to look unhappy about it. He’s only just gone in, and is sitting in the corner looking very sullen.

This tickles me as my hamsters always act as if Christmas has come early when their cage is newly cleaned. Do your bunnies like clean surroundings?

They do like clean surroundings–but they don’t like us in THEIR territory. Pumpkin charges at me and nudges my back until I’m done. She’s even nipped at me while I pick up stray poos to put them in her litter box. He’s most likely get used to it and hopefully not be so pouty about it next time!

I always try to imagine these things in as human a way as possible. This would be similar to a family member coming into your room, rearranging everything you worked so hard getting in the right order, and then leaving you in there for a while, on a weekly basis. Just remember, bunnies don’t know that their cage NEEDS to be cleaned, so they’re going to be upset that you’re fooling with their territory. For my girls, this is always short-lived and they’re annoyed for a day maximum.
