Well I’m trying something new cuz I’m feeling guilty. Jared and I worked long days today so we can have extra time off for thanksgiving. That left pumpkin in her cage from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. Let’s just say she was less than pleased since she’s used to me being home by 4:30. Then we really messed with things by doing housework and not lounging with her in the living room. I’ve been getting disapproving stars all night! Since she was only out for three hours we decided to leave her out in her room all night. I’m a little nervous but there’s nothing for her to get into so I just need to calm down! And maybe she won’t be mad anymore come morning!

She’ll probably be thrilled….and will expect that from now on! You are so brave!

Guilty??? You don’t know what feeling guilty over your bunny is if you knew how Henry lived before I met BB – GASP!
The thing’s we did cause I just didn’t know, would mortify you (as it should). Don’t ever feel bad over something like that, trust me!
And as far as making it up??? Good luck with that! I did the same with Henry and he not only expects it, he demands it as his right! My bedroom is now HIS bedroom! My furniture is now HIS treat chew toys! When Henry woke for morning play time at 4am, we ALL woke! Do you want me to go on…….. I can! LOL!
Please, don’t feel bad LLH. Only give into Pumpkin if you really want to – otherwise, she’ll get over it! Pumpkin is loved, adored and spoiled. An extra few hours locked away in her home won’t hurt. I only say this cause if she causes you grief (like Henry) you may not like her as much. Don’t get me wrong, you will always love her, but not like her – I know! I didn’t ‘like’ Henry for ages….. Ha ha ha ha….. Dam bunny!

PS – That’s why I regifted him to the hubby after my son gave him to me. Then he got fed up with his demands and regifted him back. I am counting down the days till Chrissy when I can regift him again to the hubby. He will be officially regifted for the 4th time!

Edit to Add – Henry is free roam, when the hubby made his house (now his feeding trough!) it has no door. And when we leave the house and if Henry is still up (not asleep under our bed) we point to him and say he’s in charge! Our 3 dog’s that were here first for many many many years are NOT happy! But they abide by the rules. No one in our house has the guts to argue with Henry!

Haha. Mr Roger always gives me a distinctly unimpressed look when I shut him in and has even demanded that his cage be about 60cm from the wall so that he can sit behind it. Naturally, my wife has given in, even though we’re short on space and he’s got the whole flat.

On the other hand, not to make people overly optimistic about letting their bunnies out as I think we might have a rare gem, but Mr Roger is free-roaming 24/7 and hasn’t chewed anything he shouldn’t. (He reserves chewing only for hay and his wooden hidey and has turned his nose up at the cardboard boxes and toys put out!)

Cotton is free roam all day.  The wood tv stand he chews on is blocked off.  Wires protected. Books covered.  Chairs blocked so he can’t hop onto the dining table.

Housing lets me keep him as long as he is caged.  What they dont’ know won’t hurt.  I haven’t the heart to cage him when I am not home.  I would feel so guilty. He isn’t used to it

Cotton does really good by himself. He hangs out under his coffee table.  Yes HIS coffee table. lol.

It was a little scary at first to leave him out  when I was gone. I am not gone all that much or all that long. I did a little at a time when he turned 6-7 months. As he did good I did for longer periods of time. After I learned what to bunny proof.  We learned as we went.

I am not gone all that long or that often til hubby ended up in hospital and rehab recently.  Gosh I wish he would just come home

HAHAHA oh Andi, just picturing your telling Henry “you’re in charge!” The other day when we left Jared said to Pumpkin “You’re the little lady of the house now!”

I would honestly consider free roam, as Pumpkin doesn’t dig or chew either……………BUT she like to pee on the couch now and then

Jared was all for leaving her out too. Since he got home first last night he got to see the brunt of her anger! HA…she wouldn’t let either of us pet her, yet she took paypaya and a willow wreath without a fight!

So it’s funny you say she will expect it now Andi. Normally we open her cage when we get up to get ready for work and block her in so she can run around her room. The first thing she does is run straight for the litter box thats outside her cage. The first thing she did today was zoom right past my feet and head to the living room! Little spoiled snot! Luckily I’m using a vacation day today so its not a big deal. She ran through the curtains (I think she thinks they are petting her?!?! she does that a lot) and under the couch for a snooze.

One good thing–there’s no poop or pee in her cage since she had access to the other box all night. I’m sure that makes her super happy.

After Thanksgiving we are setting up a NIC condo in our living room, so she’ll have plenty of room to roam 24/7 and we’ll still let her all the way out when we are home.

The really hilarious thing is that “Free roam” for Pumpkin is her bedroom and the hallway that leads to the living room and the living room. She ninja walks down the hallway (hardwood), pressing her whole body to the wall until she gets to the rug we put down for her to get to the living room carpet. She hates the hardwood and linoleum and won’t go into the kitchen. She’ll stand at the edge of the carpet and watch us in there but that’s it!!

So we’re moving her to our room tonight until after Thanksgiving to make room for family. ****Praying to the litter box gods that she doesn’t pee everywhere!!!!!!

I had to leave Whisky home all day today (9am to just after 8pm). She’s been quite mad. She’ll get over it. I don’t allow her out of her cage when I’m not home, because while I’ve done the best I can bunny-proofing, it’s not 100%. And I would feel WAY guiltier if I left her out and she got hurt than I do when I leave her in her cage for the day (which is maybe once every week or two for a stretch longer than 5 or 6 hours).

I brought her a new willow wreath to chew on and gave her a new cardboard box to play with, and she still keeps flicking her back feet at me. When she finally calmed down for snuggles she groomed me so furiously I had a laughing fit from the tickles. So I guess she’s over it.

My buns have the option to go in and out of their hutch ad they please, so they don’t get worried being out of their ‘home’ And again, I tink we’ve all been there! Only recently I’ve been mortified because I had to bunnito Merlin and force feed him medicine. He hates it so much and its always such an ordeal but its for his own good! I wish they spoke person, it would make the world way easier.

‘Hey dude, you’ve got the sniffles so take this medicine and it’ll make you feel better.’
                        ‘But it tastes gross!’
‘I know man, but I’ll give you a piece of apple afterwards for being brave.’

                        See?? Way easier!

Silverpaws–I love your convo! Ha! I so wish Pumpkin could speak human…Jared would have some words for her–he just moved the couch to clean and there is pee EVERYWHERE!!!!

She did however, move to her temporary space in our room yesterday and she LOVES it! So much space to zoom (at 5AM this morning…) and dressers to go under, etc. She hasn’t peed on the floor in there…yet! And its a longer trek from our room to the living room, so she’s getting braver on the hardwood.

Jared commented this morning: This bunny is getting way more luxuries than Boston ever did. Ha, true, but we spoiled Boston as much as we could in the tiny spaces we lived in.

So funny thing…Pumpkin is avoiding going into her cage at all costs now that she’s been left out for so long. I think she’s scared we’ll lock her back in. She’s eating hay out of her hay rack from the outside–up on her hind legs going over the top if it! And we always put her nighttime pellets on her shelf in the cage. She tried smooshing her face through the bars from the outside to get to them!! She eventually gave in and went inside LOL too funny!
