I got a new bunny today. He’s a 3 year old black lop named Cocobuki. He was doing well all day, even flopping on his side at one point and sitting in my lap quite a few times. He was only neutered 2 weeks ago so he’s only had one meeting with my other bun (Castiel) whom I plan to bond him with. Anyway, I brought him home today and he seems completely alright with everything including my other buns presence (jumbo cages about a foot apart)… Until I turn the lights out.
After a few minutes he begins nonstop thumping. Not sure if scared or angry. The wiring in the bunny room is extremely old and not something I can safely leave on.

Any ideas to help calm him down?

You could try one of those battery powered childrens night lights and see if it makes a difference. Is it possible you have a mouse in the room that only emerges when the lights go out ? My bunnies have a thing about rodents, the chorus of thumping one morning had my flying into the bunny room thinking they were all being attacked, there they were all huddled together in terror staring at the window. The vicious attack beast that loitered beyond was a tiny native rat trying to eat the daddy long leg spiders off the potting table OUTSIDE the window. That weren’t happy till I went out and moved it along. Poor little thing was terrified, they aren’t good climbers and it had managed to get up via the cumquat tree but couldn’t get itself down.
