My Mini Holland Lop Biscuit keeps on getting his poop stuck to his bottom. I put him a little warm water to get the poop to soften so I can get it off. Recently he’s gotten an excessive amount stuck on his bottom and i cannot get it off. I’m going to call my vet tomorrow to make an appointment for him. Does anyone else have this problem with their bunny?

Yes… Starsky is over weight and always gets them stuck. He is currently on a diet but until he is sleek again he will be getting butt baths to unglue the poop bombs. Sometimes you just have to be patient and give them warm water a chance to work, even if it doesn’t completely soften it will eventually slide out in a clump with out resistance.

You want somewhere you can control the event. Either a tub on the floor of a sink with surrounds so they can’t jump out and hurt themselves. An inch or two of warm water not to hot for bunny and a towel at the ready. Sit them in so they can rest their front paws on your arm so their whole belly isn’t in the water. Gently work the mass away with your hand whilst supporting them with the other. Lift them out onto the towel so you can dry their bottom. Some people use hair dryers but mine don’t like it and would rather sit on my lap with the towel under their bottom. There’s also some videos on youtube.

Can you tell if these are cecals or regular poops stuck to the bum? My lop gets squishy poos when his molars are due for a trim.

Is Biscuit eating plenty of hay? Sometimes rabbits can develop a messy bottom by eating too many pellets and not enough hay. There are other reasons for messy droppings, hopefully your vet can determine the cause and be able to help.

Here are instructions for a dry bath and a wet bath for a messy bunny bottom:

Thanks everyone. Biscuit vistited the vet today. The vet said the likely cause was over feeding the past couple weeks. I’ve setup a better feeding schedule so hopefully we won’t have anymore problems.

My bun is a little overweight and has the same problem. When she went to the vet she had a big poop stuck to her fur and the vet said it would be okay to just clip it off with scissors. Maybe you try that.
