So Fuji has been acting very aggressive towards me lately.  She will lunge at me when I try to get her out from under my bed and she has also been grunting when I try taking her out of her cage.  I think it is time to call the vet and make an appointment to get her fixed.  I’m a little nervous, but excited at the same time.  I am hoping she will be a sweet bunny once the procedure is over and her hormones return to normal.  What have your experiences been with spaying/neutering?  And was there a behavioral difference before and after?

My experience has been that the aggressiveness stops but the personality doesn’t really change

            Yeah, sounds like she’s ready!

We had a weird experience with Oscar’s neuter. It worked wonders for his litter box habits, he was 100%, literally from the day he got fixed, it was quite amazing. After a few weeks however, his behavior changed for the worse. He became quite aggressive, especially around food and in his cage. Now I’m not sure if this would have happened no matter what, or if his lovey dovey hormonal feelings were overpowering this aggression before his neuter. So I’m not blaming the neuter for this, there is no way that I wouldn’t have had it done, so don’t let this discourage you. I’m the first to advice anyone to have their bunny fixed and of course with a female it’s even more important than with a male. With that being said, after putting a lot of work into our relationship, Oscar has made huge strides and now there isn’t much aggression left, if any. It’s mostly rabbitude.

With your Fuji it sounds like her aggression is very much hormone related, so she should go back to her friendlier self after her spay.

Our Bridge Bunny Boston didn’t change at all pre/post spay. We got her as a baby and she was spayed within a few months. She was always sweet, loving, and full of bunny kisses!

Thanks you guys! Before all this aggression and possession with the bed, she was really sweet, a little bit of a diva but sweet. She is still potty trained (knock on wood). But more and more she doesn’t seem to want me to pet her and just lunges at me when I stick my hand out to see if she will let me pet her.

EDIT:  Then there are times like tonight when she is the sweetest little thing! She followed me around the room looking for more pets.  Rabbits are so aggravating yet so worth it at the same time!
