In one of my other threads I talked about Pumpkin’s sore lady parts, which we are treating.

This morning I noticed her poops from last night are really small. They were fine when she pooped around 8pm, but the ones in the box this morning are pretty little.

She’s eating fine–I am giving her her greens right away this morning to keep things moving and just completely switched out her hay for fresh to get her to eat lots. She’s usually a good hay eater.

What else can I do? Is this the start of GI Statis? Am I just paranoid (a very possible option!)

Just talked to hubby–i guess he didn’t give her hay this morning so that means she didn’t eat any last night. She’s been munching some this morning and she’s eating romaine.

Small poops can be caused by dehydration and low fibre. I could see how a UTI would also cause these symptoms. Make sure her greens are nice and moist and see the vet again, if she is in pain with an I nfectikn she might not be drinking enough. Request sub Qs with any meds.

I’m going to work now, but going to leave early so she’ll be alone for the next 5 hours, but I’ll make a vet appointment. I think I’m going to go back to the vet we used to take Boston too…I’m not sure I get great vibes from the one we took Pumpkin to for her original check up.

I left her wet kale and wet romaine, fresh water, and fresh hay. Crossing fingers…I’ll be home at 12:30 today (Central time, US).

Hopefully she will have some bigger poos when you see her next. Sometimes my buns will get small poos for reasons unknown and then they get right back to the normal poos. When this happens, I make sure to up the greens and feed them very wet. Shedding can also cause smaller poos.

She’s definitely shedding!! But I don’t think I can ignore the possible UTI. I’ll be nervous till I get home!

Vet appt. in about an hour. I felt better just talking to the receptionist. I feel like she knew more about bunnies than the last vet we went to.

I she still having small poops?

Sub Q’s are subcutaneous fluids (fluids that are administered via an IV butterfly catheter). They are extremely helpful for a bunny with stasis or a blockage. Sorry, Roberta. I stole the question.

She only had a few poops from 8am to 1pm. We’re at the vet now and they are going to do blood work and a fungal culture. Going to test for ringworm too… she has some concerning spots on her nose. This vet was way more throughough and has pointed out the little things the other vet didn’t notice. Should have just brought her here in the first place!

Also not ruling out urine scald or bladder sludge but that doesn’t explain the hard spots on her nose (that the last vet said was nothing!).

No bladder sludge… Checking for pox virus. Vet says it really looks viral.

Ok finally home from the vet after 2 hours there!! Vet did a blood cell count, full chemistry, fungal culture, and xrays. Basically narrowed it down to three things: Pox Virus (myxmatosis), papaloma virus, or ringworm. They called around to a few labs and nowhere can test for pox or papaloma b/c it’s so rare; the only way to really tell is a biopsy. The vet doesn’t want to do that unless we absolutely HAVE to. Since Pumpkin ate a couple large handfuls of high, was not dehydrated, and the vet could see poops in her digestive track (through xray), we are going to wait it out. She did say if it’s pox, it should take care of itself and Pumpkin appears to have pretty strong immune system to do so. We won’t have a definite negative on the ringworm for up to a month, but could have a positive as soon as a week. Vet is leaning toward pox. I don’t think it’s ringworm, b/c I would have thought it would have been passed to me or Jared after a month of us petting her all over and letting her roam our house! In the meantime the vet wants her confined to just her room and wants us to take out the rugs so that if it is ringworm the spores don’t spread.

I picked up some critical care to have on hand just in case. She’s also concerned about a back tooth that is pretty pointy/sharp and digging into Pumpkin’s tongue. She thinks she might not be eating enough hay in general and wants us to cut back the pellets AFTER she gets to feeling better.

In the meantime we wait. And make sure eating and pooping is happening.

It was a little traumatizing being back at that vet where we lost Boston But I felt comfortable and like Pumpkin was in good hands!

Oh and we got eye drops! Her eyes and nose have a tiny bit of discharge. I’m over paranoid of pasturella symptoms…so yeah, gonna get some eye drops for a week!

Myxomatosis in Minnesota??? Oh dear! If this is what the vet thinks it is, shouldn’t she be more concerned? It is so rare in the US, they don’t vaccinate for it.

I think the vet was trying not to freak me out. She’s leaning toward that because when pumpkin was with her previous owner she got outside. We don’t know for how long but she got ear mites at the time.
