Here’s our new pen with levels. I want to give them carpet but they aren’t (well, HE isn’t) litter-trained yet. It’s still an endless parade of putting little poops in the litterbox. At least the pee is always in the litter. Well, when it’s not on the couch. :-/

Love it Lara! We just bought some nic cubs…are you holding them together with zip ties?

Thanks! Yeah, zip ties where they need to stay together, and those metal leash clips for the places where it opens up. I have the front open up in one panel on the bottom, the top of the front part open, and the entire front of the second level all open for ease of cleaning and feeding and bunny-petting. 🙂 I thought about the cubes, but nobody around here sold them, and in the end the x-pen arrangement was cheaper. This cage has 8 30″ panels, 12 24″ panels, and 2 36″ panels, so it was about $120 (we buy the xpens from Amazon and they’re about $40) … then I have 1/4″ luaun plywood on the levels, with a laminate flooring over that, and all of that was about $30 …so for something this big, I think it was a good price, and it’ll break down to small sizes when we need to move it.

Knowing how big xpens are ….. that’s huge! My bunnies are small, but I always wondered what to do with a larger bunny. Xpens are heavy, hope you used a ton of zip ties!

Aw, thanks, LittlePuffyTail! Yeah, Frankie is really really cute, and you can’t really see her behind him, but Angie Hoppra is beautiful.

I was so excited to give them this bigger pen, since they can’t be out and about a lot until Frankie stops peeing on the couch :-/ (and don’t worry, JackRabbit, it’s very very secure, I made sure of that) … but they almost seem less playful in it. Like before, they’d hop in their crinkly tunnel a lot, and run little circles in the x-pen, but now they don’t as much at all. Maybe it’s because just going between levels they’re getting more exercise already, and don’t need the mini-bunny 500s, or maybe they’re just adjusting (we just finished this Saturday late-afternoon, so it’s only been since then they’ve been in it) … but I’m second-guessing if they like this better, like I thought they would. And they seem less snuggly with each other, which makes me a bit sad. I have to give it some time. Nobody likes change, right? 🙂

Very nice! I don’t think I’ve seen a condo built using the xpen panels like that! I love it!

Thanks, Beka27! I hadn’t seen this done either, but years ago I used those wire shelves you can buy to build a huge rat condo; I’m big on having doors that open completely, so that cleaning is easy; I remembered that, and knew I wanted them to have more space than the 4 x 4 … and I couldn’t go outwards (my husband has been very supportive, but there’s a limit as the pen expands into our living room lol) … so I had to go UP! 🙂 My husband was really sweet though … he build me little dove-tailed pine rims to keep stray poops and hay in the pen, and helped me make the laminate floor. I’m still working on it … I added a step / ramp going from the 2nd to the 3rd level, and a bigger landing/step with carpet on top (to allow for traction) going from the first to the second level … I think they like it better, they’re seeming more at home than they did the first few days.

Looks like a very nice space for some spoiled bunny rabbits!
