Merlin has always been a chilled out bun, and its never really bothered me, he eats and grooms himself and poops happily, but since getting Luna, the vast difference between their personalities (bunsonalities?) has made me wonder. Luna loves to binky and flop and play with things, she races around like a mad thing – Merlin doesnt do this, his fav things are sleeping, loafing out under the bed or sitting on cardboard boxes to watch the world go by.

Is it just different strokes for different buns? Or should i be worried by his lack of activity? As rescues we’re not tooooo sure of their age – We think they’re retty much the same age and Luna might be a little bit younger. There is some happy behaviour, Merlin will cuddle with Luna and they groom, and Merlin loves forraging for hay in his tinkly ball but… yeah…

Opinions? Does someone just need to tell me to chill out? :p

It definitely depends on the bun. Is Merlin a lop by any chance? My lop and my non-lop are around the same age and my lops is way more lazy. He mostly lays around during his out-time. Whereas my non-lop is much more active. She only lays down during playtime once in a while.

Lops tend to be more lazy. If he’s always been lazy, I wouldn’t worry. A sudden decrease in activity is what you need to worry about.

Ha! Oh that did make me laugh, yep, Merlins a lop and Luna is a non lop. Case in point, Luna just leaped over Merlin. Thanks PuffyTail

Is there a reason lops are more lazy? Like is it due to genetics or breeding or anything like that?

I know that most lops and dwarf breeds have flatter faces, so it may be harder for them to breathe if they exert themselves. Couldn’t say for sure though.

I’m not sure why lops tend to be more lazy and laid back. It’s strange.

My lop is way lazier than my non-lop. He’s so lazy it took him 2 years to figure out how to use an activity ball. Lops have a reputation for being laid-back and are often recommended as “beginner’s” rabbits. They can still be very good show-jumpers though. (Rabbit agility is big in Sweden.)

As LPT says, it’s changes in temperament/ behaviour that are cause for concern. Suspect a health problem if a rabbit that normally binkies around and tear cardboard boxes to pieces stops doing that and becomes grumpy and withdrawn. Unless it’s a “teen-ager” rabbit, they can go through changes in their behaviour without being the least bit ill.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. Nope, Merlin has always been a lazybutt, unless theres food, then he becomes a little fuzzy blur :p
