Do bunnies show any significant changes in behavior during the colder months ? Like long periods of sleep (Moshu is yawning a lot these days), some weight gain, temperature changes, heavier appetite ? It isnt extremely cold here. The coldest that we have had here must be around 35 F. I have started keeping bed sheets where she sleeps. When she’s asleep, i sometimes wrap it around her. And I think she likes it mostly, if not, she kicks it away xD  When it gets colder, I am going to get her a baby fleece blanket. Is there anything else that I need to do during winters to keep her well ?

I live in CA, so i’ve never expierenced weather under uh 90 haha.

I would think their coat gets a bit thicker and changes color, and they may eat more.I think your rabbit would be more interested in eating the fleeces and blankets then actually using them to keep her warm.

Rabbits are pretty fine in cold weather. It’s hot whether they don’t do well in.

It depends on whether your bunnies are indoors or outdoors and if you have heating in your house. Bun Bun’s indoors and it’s cold in my house but there’s still some heat, just not as much as in the spring/summer/fall. It’s like 40 degrees in the day but in the morning 6-7 ish it’s like 32 while overnight it can drop to like 28. It’s cold enough to freeze water bottles (my best friend’s bunnies are outdoor and it froze their water bottles.) If it get cold in your house/they’re outdoors I’d provide extra fleece, etc. If your buns eat that, try straw. I got Bun Bun in April ish I think so I haven’t experienced the cold winter with him. I’m not sure about behavior changes but since it’s still relatively warm in my house, I don’t think his behavior would change. If it’s cold, they might be a bit more lazy, loafing to stay warm but not sure about that. If you have water bottles, wrap them in socks, gloves, scarves, etc to prevent freezing

I live in the North where it’s freezing but my buns are indoors and I keep it 72+.
Have noticed though that she is shedding…seems weird to me that it’s shed time now instead of Spring.

@Mocha : Yes, I have noticed that. She has started looking very fluffy.

Haha, yes. I was thinking the same. I think a better idea than to expect her to use the fleece blanket, would be to make a cardboard hideaway for her Will put fleece blanket as the base. That will make more sense. What else can I put inside the hideaway ? Shredded paper ?

@Alli : Moshu’s an indoor bunny. She’s sleeping a lot these days. And usually in the loaf position. She starts sleeping around afternoon and laze around till 10 in the night.

@DethronedbyQueen : Her coat has grown very thick in the past one month, but yes, she’s shedding side by side too. Everytime I pick her up, she leaves some of her fur on my clothes.

Poor little Marlee is shedding so bad on her back that she looks like she’s wearing a low-riding skirt where the rest of the fur below poofs out.

I’ve never used this, but I’ve heard of people using straw as bedding (or just hay). It looks really nice, fluffy, and insulated.
