Hi, I know most of you use fleece for your rabbits and I was wondering if the type of fleece makes a difference? I have a ton of brand new microfleece and performance fleece stuff lying around..is that all ok if he chews it? I know I need to remove it if he eats it, but otherwise is it ok? How do you wash your fleece? Any special detergent? I am actually thinking of using fleece for the ramps I will put in his cage (grid panel, then coroplast, then fleece). Not sure if it will give him enough traction though but I cant use wood or carpet because he is a major chewer. Any advice or insight would be great, thanks!

For fleece or any material you use you want to make sure that when you pull at it or when your bun chews it, it doesn’t break away in threads. Most fleece I know of doesn’t. But maybe cut a bit of the fleece and pull it and see how it breaks, usually it breaks in chunks not threads. I use fleece in my buns cages and they love chewing and digging it and have been safe since they don’t eat it.
As for washing it I use eco friendly detergent, which is what I use for my own clothes, but it probably a good idea for your buns fleece since they tend to lick and chew it.
I think for a ramps it sounds like as long as it is a gradual enough ramp, fleece would be good, maybe double layer it.

When washing fleece don’t use fabric softener because it will ruin the fleece and make it less absorbant. I use fleece and fleece cage liners and I have never had a problem with eating or chewing it, just digging at it. I also recommend getting some sort of fur removing brush, or what I use is called a CarPet and it is rubber and removes all the fur. You will need to do this before putting them in your washing machine to avoid damaging it esp when your bun is having a molt.

Instead of using detergent for fleece you could use vinegar. It will make it so it absorbs well and isn’t toxic for the buns.

Well just a little update…the fleece didn’t work well on the ramp. My guy is kinda on the bigger side so he was slipping down. It might work if I zip tie it down but then there would be no way for me to remove it. I decided to replace the fleece with seagrass mats (2 large mats per ramp) and zip tie them to the sides and he had a much better grip on it. Now the only problem is if he decides to yank on the mats it could destroy the cage lol. I still haven’t moved him into the cage as its not finished yet but almost there! It’s been quite the project haha. I will post pictures when its finished
