Do your bunnies have their own anti-social spaces?
Peter has a spot, about 2.5 feet left of my computer, in the middle of the open floor, that is his anti-social-bubble.  He’ll sit there whenever he’s gotten his nose out of joint over something, and give bunny death-glares to anyone who happens by the room.  Other times he’ll be there and be perfectly happy watching me or my husband type away at the computer, turning into a purring little meatloaf; but heaven forbid anyone try to touch him—then he’ll box you, move your hand away with his teeth, snort, stomp, and generally throw a royal tantrum until you leave his one-foot bubble.  Since it’s not hurting anything we’ve let him lay claim to that section of the floor and just accept that if he’s there he’s peeved about something and should be left alone.  After a while he calms down and wanders off for a snack or to goose the cat.    Pete can be a little eccentric sometimes; but we love him.

My bunny gets cranky sometimes too!! I guess everyone loves their own space! He’ll hide in the corner under the bed and if I try to cuddle he’ll thump VERY loud. I was concerned at first but now it just seems like he does it when he wants alone time. He will also sit on top of his plastic castle and give me evil glares from across the room. I just let him be and maybe pop an extra apple slice in his bowl to suck up

Just make sure Peter is eating and drinking normally and he’s not doing it all the time or it may be a sign of pain. Binky was under the bed for a week and it turned out he had toothache. But once and a while I think is normal!

I love that your bunny teases the cat haha mine does the same! I think he wants to be friends

Cottontail – Anyone who had any concerns about you being able to have a wild cottontail as a pet should now be wondering how on earth Peter would ever have made it in the wild! He has such a huge personality and was simply meant to be a spoiled house bunny! Keep the stories coming! (I almost skipped over the thread, but saw you had posted and thought “Oh, a Peter story! Gotta see what cute/funny thing he’s done now!”)

Ellien, when Pete first claimed his personal-bubble on the floor that was what I was worried about; but it seems that this is just his “don’t touch me” space. He’s got the appetite of a horse and is on a pretty regular potty schedule, so I’m not too worried about it. I’ve seen him when he was gassy/uncomfy, and this is different. It’s just anti-social time.

JR, that is the exactly the impression that the rehabber and his vets have had. They see cottontail and think “wild rabbit,” but they take one look at him and within the first 30 seconds of meeting him decide he’s more domestic than most bunnies and would never make it. He just has that affect on people. lol
