I have a Flemish Giant, Boris, who is about 5 months old now. We had him neutered a little over a month ago. Before that, he started peeing on the couch every time he got up there, and then peeing on the carpet too. More puddles than little “squirts” (since I’ve read about spraying).

Right after the neuter, he was so good. Still leaving poops around on the carpet when he was out of his condo (he’s not free roam, though we would love him to be),  but no peeing.

This week, however, that changed. First he peed a big puddle on the couch. Which, I know couches can be a trigger spot for buns since it smells strongly of “us”. I hoped it was just that and planned to get him off the couch anytime he jumped up. But then last night, he peed right in front of the couch on our carpet! It was less pee than a puddle, but we caught him mid-pee and so that could be why.

He doesn’t ever pee outside his litter in his condo, and will just have a few poops outside of it but I’m not sure if they come out when he jumps in/out.

We had thought the neutering would solve the peeing… but it seems he is back to being untrustworthy! So frustrating!

        Any advice/thoughts??

Neutering doesn’t always solve the problem right away. Usually maturity and neutering will eventually solve the problem, but I don’t find that neutering on it’s own is always the answer. I think eventually he could be free roam as he grows older. But he’s still pretty young at 5 months old and probably not terribly focused on anything.

At the 6th week mark after my Clyde’s neuter, he was still dribbling the spots like you describe. We’re at week 8 now and he hasn’t done it in about a week now… so definitely don’t lose hope!

Do you think he’s getting too much free roam at this point and is ignoring his box? I’ve had a rabbit that, if I didn’t leave some of the dirty litter in the box, he would get confused (bratty) and stop using the box for weeks. I sometimes had to confine him to a much smaller space for a couple of days so he was forced to use the box and remember what it was there for. Just a thought. They few rabbits I’ve had to have neutered have responded overnight, but, of course, every rabbit is different.
