I have a bonded pair of two males. They will groom each other normally but occasionally the dominant one will nip out a large chunk of seemingly fine fur (mostly near the rear) causing the other one to quickly run away. Then shortly after, they are back together. Is this normal grooming? I feel bad for the poor guy and wonder what this means.

        Thanks!

It’s not normal “grooming” for one bunny to pull out the others fur, that’s fighting.

          Are the both neutered?

It must be attack. Normal grooming is not too aggressive for neutered bunnies like that pit.

My bonded bunnies do that too. Basically im assuming the dominant one is saying “you’re bugging me, go away” My older bun often nips the younger bun to chase her away, but then wanders over and snuggles up with her too. Bunnies have such a thick layer of fur that it shouldn’t hurt the bunny unless he loses enough fur to have a bald spot. Then you should be concurned.
