Help! We had our two bonded neutered/spayed bunnies litter trained for two years now. Not once since they have been fixed had they pooped or peed outside of their litter. Out of nowhere our male bunny peed on our leather couch on the seat. We chalked it up to a fluke. A week later, our female bunny peed in the same exact spot! Mind you, we of course santized the area (wiped and cleaned) the best we could while saving the integrity of the leather furniture. After two strikes, we are reluctant to have them on the couch with us (as the second time the female peed on me as I was sitting in the target zone).

Today, when I left the couch to throw something together to eat which took no longer than 2 minutes, I return to a pile of urine and poop with evidence of the females paws being soaked.

What the heck!?? They were angels the last two years of their life.

Unless you could vinegar/water the area, the urine smell is probably still there labeling the spot as a litterbox. I can only imagine the damage a bunny who decides to dig could do to a leather sofa. We have leather furniture in our family room but are saving that room for future bonding as its the last neutral area in our house. Planning to block off the leather furniture when we get to that point. You might consider doing the same. Sorry.

Make it off limits immediately! While my bunnies were never angels when it comes to litter box habits, if they pee twice in the same area I know they will be back for more. They are so weird like that. It doesnt matter how well you clean it, the couch is their new peeing spot so dont tempt them.

One thing I can say about Riley is that he’s never peed out of is box, he’s put little yellow and orange paw prints everywhere tho….
I’d heard that as well as trying to keep them off the spot and sanitizing it you can put a soaked rag there to compleatly hide any smell.
Personally I’d just get a cheap cushion to place there, not major if it get soaked in vingar/etc and is easy enough to move if someone wants to sit there
