So I bought a beautiful Dutch buck a a week ago and he is still pretty nervous. He has full run of the house and has his own playpen with his cage that I call Rascals “chill out zone” haha.

So anyway, when hes running around or we sit in his playpen, he grunts alot, does binkies (which are adorable) but he’ll come up close and at first gently nibble but they turn into bites. We firmly say no, or push his head away but he’ll keep going. I also can’t wear any type of socks because he becomes OBSESSED with them and will bite/knaw/pull on them.

Funny enough with my partner, he’ll lick him, barely grunt and let him pat him. Kinda makes me feel a little left out.

Also hes 12 weeks old and wondering when the best time to desex him is and if it will make him any more placid? Thank you!

I neutered Mr Binks between 4 and 5 months old. It does make them more calm and no more humping and hormonal aggression. He still “honks” every now and then, but I think it’s cute. But he doesn’t have any of the hormonal issues anymore (he was neutered in July). One thing I found out about rabbits (first time owner, and this website has been a godsend!) is that bunnies take a while to get used to surroundings and trust you. Congrats on your new family member! My husband and I have just fallen head over heels for these little guys

Thanks for replying! Oh fantastic, I was hoping that would be the case as he REALLY loves my feet haha. I’ve just noticed the honk, first time my hubby heard it he was worried Rascal was choking haha. Yes, this website is fantastic, I’ve already learnt so much from reading other peoples posts. Thank you, he is so sweet, can’t wait to get to know him better! Husband “hates” all our animals but I don’t think I believe him when I catch him smooching, kissing and dancing with them haha, but Rascal has one him over in a heartbeat!

My husband says he never thought a bunny would have such a personality and be so animated. He fell in love with him fast too I loved when he honked I was sad that trait would go away after being fixed but a couple months later he started doing it when I would lay down next to him he still chews at the carpet and nips when I am in his way but he has a lot of energy and is still sweet, can’t wait to see pics! I saw your profile says you have a disabled rat? I had pet rats as a kid, they were a lot of fun

That’s exactly what mine said! He pretends to get annoyed when he snuffles him or thumps at 5am to get attention, haha, but I always catch him giving Rascal a snuggle and secretly feeding him treats I’m glad they keep the best parts of him when they get desexed because out of any animal I’ve had, he has the biggest personality of them all! Plus you can’t help but crack up at his markings for a dutch, has a beautiful band of white on his chest but one of his legs decided to be chocolate with a white paw and a big zigzag at the front haha.

Yeah im still trying to figure out how to post pics since I’m on my phone

Yes, my rat Bramble has a problem with his hips, probably from the mum laying on top of him funny. He came from a home, with his brother, where the kids “lost interest” and they were both in horrible condition. His mate died 2 years ago but he is a lot happier with all his ground level housing and bot getting bullied. Plus hes almost 5 now whoch the vets said is quite amazing haha. Hes an ugly thing but terribly sweet

This was exactly my reaction after getting my first bunny.
