I am quite worried. I’ve had Goober (he’s a mini rex) for about two weeks now. I’ve had to keep him in a cage (3×4) since getting him. I’m in the process of building him a condo (in his own bunny proofed room) I’m just waiting for the last parts to ship in (should be between 1-4 days). I’m worried that 1) He may be over-eating. He gets a half a cup of pellets a day (I split it up so he gets some in the morning and some in the evening) he always will RUN and jump all over me when he knows its pellet time. 2) Is he eating so much because he’s bored/depressed in the cage? I always leave hay in there for him but its always gone in a couple hours! (Good amount of hay too) I let him out every day for anywhere between 2-5 hours (depending on how I feel been struggling with allergies lately) I feel horrible to have to leave him in the cage as much as I do. I wish I could have his condo done or trust him enough to let him roam freely around my house, but he is not litter trained yet nor is he neutered so he’s a bit wily. I’m just worried that he may get depressed. When I let him out now I’ll normally sit on the couch and watch tv and he will run all over my living room binkying and jumping up on the couch to hop and sniff all over me (which I know the binkying means a happy buns). Also worried that he may become overweight I’m slowly introducing in leafy greens to him (he goes NUTS over parsley) and cutting down the pellets a smidgen.

(also felt it was appropriate to show him nomming down on his favorite.. parsley

He’s cute. How old is your rabbit and what besides the parsley and pellets does he get? Does he have access to hay full time?

For the pellets, I think this is just how rabbits are with pellets – they love them. Age of your rabbit will depend on what their diet should be so if you can answer that question and let us know what else he eats, we can help you.

His 5 Month birthday is today actually, he always has access to hay. He mostly is just on parsley and small (garden grown) carrots as treats every now and then. I read somewhere you’re supposed to introduce veggies in their diets slowly so that’s what I’ve been doing. Any suggestions on other veggies to introduce?

You actually should be feeding him more pellets at his age – it is suggested by House Rabbit Society unlimited until 7 months and then reduce them.

Here is a link to suggested veggies by House Rabbit Society – please read the whole article as there is lots of good information:
