One of my younger rabbits, Leonard Nimoy, has never eaten his cecotropes.. I’ve been trying to change his diet as I’ve heard that can help, but have had no success. He’s almost 5 months old, and has normal poops, but leaves his cecotropes everywhere, limiting him to being in a large cage with wire floors, if not they end up smeared in his wool and causing mats. He’s an angora, so keeping him in anything else before he starts eating them is not an option.

I’ve tried lowering the amount of pellets he gets and increasing hay, but after two months that hasn’t helped. I tried switching him to a lower protein feed, but that did not help either.

Is there anything I can do to get him to start eating them? I know it can cause health concerns if done long term, and I’d like to be able to put him in a pen like my other buns once he’s neutered.

        Thanks!

He is probably just eating what he needs…this is not uncommon.

I’ve never seen any left around by any of my other rabbits though, and this guy is leaving tons of them! It’s not possible to keep him in anything but a wire bottomed cage, which I hate..
