Hey everyone, I am a new bun mom and Im a little bit concerned about my new family member…

He is only 9 weeks old (or so the breeder told me) and I got him a couple days ago. Ive been giving him fresh hay and feeding him unlimited pellets that the breeder provided me with.

He was fine up until today, when hes been dropping his cecals everywhere. So far there have been 4 or 5 little cecal bunches on the ground and Im starting to get worried….

Should I take him to a vet asap? or should I reduce his pellet intake?

Im really new to all of this and I would really appreciate any help!

I’m sorry this isn’t answering the question but how can you tell whether his poops are cecals or not? I know some bunnies like to eat their cecals in private (funny as it sounds) but Bun Bun has no shame haha. I was gonna say your bunny might be eating his cecals when you’re not looking but I mean if you can tell the difference between his normal poops and his cecals…

It’s not unusual for rabbits this age who are on pellets only not to eat all their cecals. You don’t need to worry. And no, you don’t want to reduce pellet intake.

I would however recommend you make a wellness check with the vet and do have them do a fecal test to check for coccidia.

Agree with Sarita, baby buns often produce extra cecals simply because their diet needs to be rich… Don’t reduce anything unless you start to see diarhhea.
