        Vibes, please.

We’ve been to the vet, they x-rayed his stomach, no gas, but there was less contents in his GI-tract than there ought to be. Bladder looked fine. She did a molar-exam and they looked fine. He got a pain-killer and fluids and vitamin bs and critical care to go. Told us  to come back tomorrow if he’s not right then.

He’s not right now. We came home an hour ago. I’ve given him at least 10 ml of CC. I need to keep feeding him, the vet said. Mum got him to eat a craisin and an almond but no greens, but now she’s gone, he won’t eat anything. He’s not been to the toilet since this morning, just two fecal pellets, no pee. I’m thinking with all that fluid he was given + the CC he ought to need to pee by now? He just sits and is very unlike himself. Vet said to try and get him to move around but he won’t.

Other than that the vet said he looked very well, not fat, not skinny, beautiful fur, good muscles, and all that. He was in obvious pain when she palpated him, even if he let me massage his tummy for 2 x 15 minutes without protesting.

I’m really worried. If anybody has any advice or some vibes or anything at all to say, please do! Vet couldn’t say what was wrong, just that sth was wrong.

          Sending many {{{{{vibes}}}}} !

It’s weird how our bunnies can get like this out of the blue. And worrisome too!

Hoping for a happy update when I next check in.

Vibes to Yohio. See if they can show you how to do fluids at home as well.

                  Thank you!

Now it’s bedtime here. I’ve been feeding him 5-10 mls of cc every hour. He’s eaten 1,5 almonds (I’m happy if he eats anything) and produced about 15 normal poop + a tarry black lump of poop. He’s moved around some. He’s washed himself. Quite a lot of the cc gets stuck under his chin. He bit me the last time I picked him up to feed him but not hard. Afterwards he let me pet his nose. He’s not himself at all though. Won’t touch a craisin.

I’m setting the alarm for 3 am so I can check on him. Or should I keep feeding him every hour through the night? I forgot to ask. I have no problem staying up if it helps him.

                    Hi Bam,
I’m in almost the identical situation with Pascal so you have my empathy.. Pascal is eating but not drinking enough. I am going to get some cranberry juice tonight to mix in his water.

You tell him I said to get better or I’ll come over there to point my finger at him while going crook.
Take care bam and hug’s to Yohio.

He’s eaten on his own during the night, I’ve heard him. It’s a beautiful sound, the sound of a bunny munching. But he’s not eaten nearly as much as he normally does, so I’ll have to try and get som cc into him now. It’s just so difficult to catch him, I fear I stress him out by doing it. Yesterday that wasn’t a problem, he just sat, so it’s a good sign that he is moving around today, but still.

Oh the poor thing. Have you ever tried canned pumpkin? And you can out it on celery to force feed him and not get bitten, though once they get the flavor he will likely chow it down. Is cc a powder? I have something similar to cc that’s a powder and I was able to mix it with the pumpkin and drop big balls of it into Gus’ big mouth. Oh, I hope things straighten out for him, Bam! So sorry to hear about him. But. I see I’m a bit late in seeing this, so probably too little help too late.:-(

Yes, Lpt, I’ve been writing in the chat though. He’s been eating ok in the night, just ate a few Jerusalem Artichoke leaves and has had 7,5 ml of Cc this morning + simethicone. He seems a bit better. Wish I could get more CC into him though, his poop is so small and black. I’m going out to pick some willow for him, we’ve a big tree in the yard.

Just spoke to the vet. He can’t have any painkillers. It infuriates me, because what would be the harm? They said to btake him in and put him under for a gut-exam, but he’s much better today. I’d like to say many many swear-words now. Just given him 15 mls off Cc. He’s sought out the dog now and is lying next to her. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want them messing with him more than they need to.

Is there another vet you can speak to ? I can’t see why they would refuse pain meds unless they are looking to make a profit.

Yes roberta, I am thinking the same thing. There’s no other rabbit vet here except the big animal hospital which is the very very last vresort since it’s owned by risk capitalists and really suck big time, talk about profit-hungry. I really thought my vet was better.

I’ll take him in tomorrow if he needs it because he really is much better. But I think it’s rather cruel to refuse pain meds. What do they do if they put him under to check his belly? I don’t want them opening him up or sth awful like that =(

I would call the vet back and ask for details about the gut-exam, as I feel they should have provided you with more information about it when they suggested it. Keep us updated!

                                                Thank you so so much!

Canned pumpkin is an unknown item in Sweden. I have a pumpkin though, I can cook it for him but the last time I tried he refused to have anything to do with it (that was when he was well). I’ve given him CC mixed with unsweetened berry-juice that has a probiotic. I actually managed to give him 15 ml just now. That makes it 67 ml total today and that’s good, right? Seeing as he’s eaten some willow, Jerusalem artichoke and pumpkin seeds as well? I’m planning on one more feeding before bed-time.

When I came home after having taken the dog fior a walk (poor baby, she’d not had a proper long walk in 2 days), he was sitting in the hallway the way he normally does and even came to greet us, which I think is excellent. He lies down with his feet back Henry-in-Andi’s-siggy-style, that’s not how a bunny in pain would lie is it?

He’s much more himself now, but not quite. He can refuse a pumpkin seed, that’s sth normally he wouldn’t dream of. If he’s not allright tomorrow, should I suspect sth worse than stasis then? Or can stasis take this long “normally”? I wish they could have let me give him metacam and sub-Q fluids but in this country that seems like the most preposterous suggestion imaginable, almost like wanting to euthanize a child or sth =(.

I’m going to check if there’s any way of ordering metacam from abroad. Lots of human prescription meds are available from the UK.

Bummer about the pumpkin. It’s part of Gus’ emergency kit. He started with diarrhea one night and I was in a panic and called this amazing woman who I’ve always emailed (not Gus’ breeder, but someone much more like a pet owner with her crew) and she started getting happy that I called for about two seconds before she stopped and said, “Wait, why are you calling?”

FIrst thing she told me to do was get pumpkin and as soon as he was force fed one bite of it, he would LOVE it and she was right.

But sounds like you’ve got things well in hand. I’m not passing judgement on his behavior because you would know more than I, so I’ll leave that to the others. I really hope he gets better and so sorry to hear about the attitude of vet care over there.

Well, he got better. The diarrhea was once and about the size of a half dollar, but I knew I couldn’t wait. He did get better fast. She also had me adding Pedialyte to his water. And she recommends enemas for stasis, though I don’t know her procedure. She’s just amazing. You would all love and approve of her…honest!! I should try and find the email that goes with that. I should have (may have) printed it out. But that pumpkin was great while he wasn’t eating well most recently and that (or something) worked quickly for the diarreah.

Megabunny, I don’t know if it was the pumpkin, but Yohio woke me up half an hour ago by jumping in my bed, begging for pets and pumpkin-seeds. Now he’s lounging with his legs out. I can hear him chewing a little on some willow.

He’s not eaten a lot during the night, most of his veggies are still there, but maybe that’s due to his “supper” of 22,5 ml CC? There’s lots of poop, albeit small.

I had forgotten about this, but it does make sense. We actually had Pedialyte mixed in with the dry kitten milk when Pete was still being dropper-fed to make sure that he didn’t go into dehydration if his tummy got upset. As for the pumpkin, I know it works wonders when my cat gets diarrhea… Still haven’t let Pete try it yet.

He’s not eaten a lot during the night, most of his veggies are still there, but maybe that’s due to his “supper” of 22,5 ml CC? There’s lots of poop, albeit small.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about this as long as he’s still eating. Pete will go through periods where his poops are smaller but they generally return to normal size after a day or two.. Seems more to do with his hay intake.

I’m glad to hear that Yohio is doing better! I hope he continues to feel better!

But he’s much more like himself, curious and quick and feisty, he growls and boxes when I catch him, but he takes his CC-pumpkin-probiotic juice in good humour from the syringe, and he’s eaten some leaves and some pumpkin seeds.

He’s been jumping in the bed like a baby bunny during the night and he’s demanded pets, he’s tried to break into the kitchen and I’ve heard him munching a lot during the night. He had his breakfast by the bunny-gate in the company of both Bam and Ephi, just imagine what a happy sight, three littl’uns muching away in beautiful unison =)

He’s not been this sprightly in months. Maybe he’s not been feeling quite right for some time. I’ll keep up the syringe-feeding for some time though.

Megabunny, I’m definitely never going to be without emergency pumpkin again. I’ll go get another muscat pumpkin, bake it and mush it up and put it in the freezer. It’s magic stuff!

Yohio’s still better. Not quite normal amounts of pee and poop, but the poop has gotten bigger. He eats, it’s the loveliest sound =) And he’s social, he lounges around, doesn’t hide under the bed. I don’t know for how long I should keep up the CC. A week, or what do you think?

I went out to buy a pumpkin yesterday and the smallest one they had was 12 kilos (26,5 lbs). I have to find a smaller one. Or would butternut squash do? They’re a lot more practical in size.

I had never eaten pumpkin anything until a year ago when I discovered butternut squash. I guess I can get a big pumpkin and prepare it. cooked, mashed up and driven through a strainer it wont take up much space.

                                                                                    How is Pascal today?
