Hi, everyone. I recently adopted a bunny from the local park, whom I found in a trash can along with 13 brothers and sisters. She looks like she can’t be older than four or five months. I think she is a mini lop. I’ve already bonded her with my other (spayed) girl, Clementine. They are doing very well. However, she isn’t yet spayed, as she is a bit too young. The vet agrees.

Anyway, I’m having a bit of difficulty handling the whole “unspayed bunny smell”. I use carefresh for now. I know it isn’t optimal, but I have a huge bag I would like to use up before transitioning to stove wood pellets. So I’m wondering, how frequently would you change the box? What would you do to keep the smell at bay? Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think my only tip is to toss it as you smell it really. I don’t think there’s an actual magic number of days for things like this because it probably depends on many factors and also some people’s sensitivity to odors. Maybe you could buy the wood stove pellets and mix in the Carefresh too so that you don’t feel like you are wasting the Carefresh because the Carefresh is not cheap.

Thanks, Sarita. I definitely would like to make the switch as soon as possible, as the care fresh is very expensive and bad at absorbing odor.
