Hi everyone! Haven’t been on here in ages. Life has been manic!

The reason for my post…. me and Retrosquid never go away on holiday. Or even away for weekends. It’s so difficult to leave our buns, they need their slaves! We would like to go away for the odd weekend but we don’t trust petsitters 100%, they tend to be dog/cat focused and we all know how imperative it is to have someone experienced looking after our buns, things can go wrong quickly and we need someone who knows buns and can recognise odd behaviours.

I’d really like to start a wee group of bun lovers who would be willling to bun sit now and again, obviously it would be reciprocal! We aren’t in any rush to do it, I just thought it would be a good idea.

Let me know if you’re interested

Louise, Benjamin, Link, Navi and Daisy xxx

I am in the west of Scotland too (Glasgow) but I don’t think I would like to look after other people’s buns, what if they didn’t get on with my Bramble or something like that? I do know of somewhere that takes bunnies in like the way a dog kennels works. I have never used them personally so cant speak for how good they are but someone passed me a card when we first got Bramble because they knew I sometimes spend some time at my mums and thought they might be of use. If you are interested I can dig out the number for you

Hi Kirstyol Thank you so much for replying. It’s good to know other bunny slaves in Glasgow! We have sent our Link to a bun-sitter before and she was great, don’t get me wrong, but my little man was couped up in a cage for 23 hours of the day and he is used to free-reign of our house.Link is king of our living room We are looking for someone who would pop in once a day and see our buns in their own environment, and give them hay and their favourite greens and make sure they are ok. (and check their poops of course )
            PS your Bramble is adorable

For info, our girls Navi and Daisy have their own room, Link has our living room for now while we are bonding them

Oh that’s awful, Bramble goes mad if there are people in the room and he is still in his cage, he knows he gets out as soon as we get up and doesn’t really like not getting his own way. We have to keep him in his cage at night because try as we might to bunny proof he always finds a way to get in trouble! He doesn’t seem to mind too much to be honest but as soon as we get up he is quite good at letting us know its time for him to be let out.

Ah I misunderstood, I thought you were meaning someone to take your buns while you were away. I would happily pop in to check on someone elses buns, that sounds like a good idea actually. I am sure the buns would be happier being at home as well.

Sorry I can’t help, but I also think this is a great idea!

That’s great Kirstyol and thanks LEL, I don’t know anyone else who has bunnies (well not in “real life” face to face) so would be great to meet others too.

One of the girls at my uni has a bunny, well its her daughters really but they all live in the same house so its sort of hers and she is usually stuck with the vet bills lol. She is a little out of the city though on the opposite side from me and she doesn’t drive so I couldn’t ask her to pop in on Bramble. To be honest I probably wouldn’t leave him with anyone just now, but when he is a bit older and (hopefully) a bit better behaved its definitely a better alternative to putting him in somewhere and risk him being locked up all day which I am sure he would hate. Although the person would have to put up with a grumpy hamster as well!

Hahaha AndHenry I think you would steal lots of bunnies given a chance Watch out folks! We are doing well thanks, Retro’s back at uni in 3rd year so that’s keeping him busy and I’m so busy with work then looking after our fuzzies when we get home. Life is manic. Good, but manic

Is your daughter’s boyfriend from Scotland? I take it he is living in Australia now? Ah, I do miss it over there. I spent a year travelling, stayed in Kambalda with family then did a safari up the west coast and stayed in Darwin for a while. Then lived in Melbourne for a bit, then a trek down the East coast from Cairns to Sydney. Didn’t see nearly enough though, I love it over there and would go back in a heartbeat.

Kirstyol, I hear you about badly behaved buns. Our Navi LOVES to chew on our furniture. They have plenty of toys and things to chew, but nooooo, she wants my lovely new coffee table. As for Link, he is the grumpiest of buns. He has been through a very hard time the last year though so he has every right. He’s much better now though, and seems very happy. He still grunts all the time though but we think that’s him communicating with us rather than being angry!

Bramble is still young, he is just over 6 months so I guess I expect him to still be a little naughty. He is getting better though I have to say, although my dining table and chairs are still not safe. He lulls me in to this false sense of security ‘look at me sitting under the table all cute and not doing anything remotely naughty’ then you stop watching him for just a second because he really is doing no harm and low and behold he is chewing the legs of the table! Bramble’s biggest problem is that he is immune to bunny proofing! No matter what I do he still manages to chew things, so he doesn’t get in the living room if we are not here so he cant bite through any more wires, he has already ruined my wii sensor thingy! I am fortunate though because he has been litter trained since the day we brought him home and has never had any accidents outwith his litter box, and we got him neutered before he started spraying so overall he is doing well.

When we got our first bun Zelda, he was very naughty and we were very inexperienced. I was “bun-stting” him in the living room one night (and got distracted by a book) and my husband’s brand new wii controller charger wire had been chomped through. Ooops! Retro was not happy. To be fair though, Zelda managed to snaffle a fair bit of wallpaper one day on his watch. We got wise to it after that! We have bunny proofed as much as we can. The latest object they claimed as their own was our wicker washing basket (it was untreated so we ended up just giving it to them). It’s almost gone now…..

Bramble chewed through the wii sensor wire the night he escaped, we were lucky it could have been much worse if he had chewed the power cable for the tv he could have died. We gave up on bunny proofing the cables because whatever we put on them seemed to attract him more rather than less so when he is in the living room we use his pen as a guard to block access to the whole tv unit and its associated cables. Because he wasn’t supposed to be out that night he was able to get behind the telly and chew the wii wires. I learned my lesson and always make sure he cant get to it if we are leaving the house or going to bed, even if he is in his cage since that didn’t stop him last time. To be honest he is quite a good bunny, but a real chewer nothing stops him wanting to chew.

From what I can gather Ouisie, the daughter’s BF and his family emigrated to Oz from Scotland when they were kid’s, so they grew up here in South East Queensland, and the parents moved back to Scotland last year to be with their families again – the parents parent’s are getting old. As disappointing as it must be to have your parents move away (I couldn’t imagine it – but my hubby’s parents did the same from Spain, so it’s not uncommon) my daughter is welcoming to opportunity to visit – they plan on starting in Scotland, travelling through Europe and back to Scotland before coming home – so lucky!
So yep, I can get her to quickly drop in – but don’t expect to find any of your bunnies (especially Link) when you get home, ha ha ha!
So cool you visited Oz! If you and Retro ever decide to visit again, make sure you drop in and see me – I would have been on your way from Cairns to Sydney, and you can take Henry (no need to steal him!) – but he’s so naughty, you’d drop him back before you left my State, lol!

PS – 3rd year in Uni, he’s getting there – good on him! and how good are you, working and looking after everyone….. you both amaze me!
