So ive had my bunny a week or so and hes still quite shy and reserved which is fine and i understand that. Well we let him out of his kennel everyday for at least an hour usually more and he was always going under the dresser in our room. He’d check things out for a bit and then just hide. Well we didnt like him going under there for numerous reasons so we blocked it all off and now he barely comes out of his kennel. Hes clearly upset about us blocking it off. My question is should we just unblock under the dresser to make him happy or just wait for him to come around? I will say he probably spent the first year of his life mostly just in a kennel so im sure thats what hes use to. But i want to make him comfortable and happy so he knows we just want his bunny lovins. Haha. Advice would be great.

If you don’t want him under the dresser, he doesn’t need to go under it. He will eventually come around and come out of his cage for playtime, you just need to be patient and give him time. In the meantime, you can try to tempt him out with treats. It also would be a good idea to give him some hiding places of his own outside of his cage, such as a box.

Get a moderate sized cardboard box. Seal it with some bunny safe tape. Cut 2-3 rabbit size holes in the sides and or top. Leave near his cage and watch the fun. He will get the idea.

A bunny box is ideal. At least 2 exits, bunny burrows always have 2 exits. (Or entrances if you will). Even a chair with or without a towel hanging from the seat (check so she doesn’t eat towels of course) can serve as a nice rabbit safe-place. They often like “ceilings” where they sit/lie, they like to feel shielded from threats from above. My Yohio often sits under a kitchen stool from where he has a good view of his surroundings but where predators can’t get to him easily (imaginary predators of course). My Bam sat under a table for a year when I first had him. It’s an instinct.

The dresser can be forbidden grounds, as long as you provide sth else, she’ll forgive you =)
