Okay so less than a week ago, I adopted an adorable angora-mini lop mix named Java. He is very social, and very curious, which was one of the main reasons I chose to adopt him. Anyways, so I built him a 3×4 NIC cage with an open top. He really isn’t that big, so I figured it would be tall enough. I guess I jinxed myself?. He was being really naughty during floor time, so after about 2 hours I put him back in his cage. I could tell that he really wanted to come back out, but I had a big test to study for as I am still in high school, and I really wouldn’t be able to babysit him. The next thing I knew, he leaped over his cage and plopped right next to me (luckily he landed on a blanket?). Can anybody suggest a new easy cage design that will prevent this from happening while I’m not at home(with pictures please)?

Welcome! Oh, yes – bunnies can leap surprisingly high when they want to. The general recommendation for height is 36″ (3 ft) at the minimum. Or, you could close the top of the condo.

You can expand on your NIC condo! Try something like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tkEgriwCDlQ/TxNmBWAnenI/AAAAAAAAARo/cCsmihRD25U/s1600/chesterscondo.jpg

Or, if you’re looking to try something totally new, you can try an x-pen set up, like this: http://38.media.tumblr.com/1706448f37b2737b1a264c6ee89ddb53/tumblr_nckztwNfIO1tfqaemo1_1280.jpg (my set up!)

          Good luck!

My little 3 lb bunny can clear a baby gate without hesitating. I agree with FLR, xpens are great (I wasn’t taking any chances and went with the 48″ tall xpens!). Height or roof are pretty much the options.

I’d just put a top on your NIC condo.
